Sodom and Gomorrah Main Points to Remember 1. God is both just and merciful Vocabulary: brimstone: a mineral (or kind of rock or dirt) that will catch fire Prayer: Father, please help us keep separate from the evil of the world around us Activity: Make a pillar of salt from an old clothespin. Glue cotton balls or rock salt to it. Make arms from white pipe cleaners. Discussion: Does God call the sin or the people exceedingly evil? He calls the sin, or the actions, of the people evil. God did hate the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah, but they hated God by sinning against him, sinning against themselves, and sinning against other people. Eventually their sin was so great that it cried out for justice. Just as the evil in Noah's time caused a great flood. And just as the rebellion at the Tower of Babel caused God to separate men. God will punish evil deeds done by unrepentant men. But he will also save the righteous, even if there are just a few. Activity: Add Lot's family to a family tree that will develop as the lessons progress. Have the students make generic paper people (like Bible Friends). Name them and post them on a board, using yarn or dots to connect the family lines. A great source for OT family tree information is: http://bible.ort.org/books/gened2.asp True/False 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
