Employer: Broadmoor Improvement Association Job Title: Social Work Intern Compensation: Unpaid. Duration: June 1-July 31, 2009. This can be customized to fit personal needs. Job Description: The Case Manager’s main duty will be to intake high-priority residents (especially the 21% of residents who have not yet returned). The Case Manager will interview residents, identify their needs, connect them to available resources and assist with any additional paperwork needed. In addition, the Case Manager will work with residents one-on-one to tailor an individualized recovery plan that restores them to a sustainable, pre-Katrina living situation. All information collected will be entered into Salesforce, BDC’s online database that identify high-priority residents and stage largerscaled intervention campaigns to provide direct service to residents in the areas of health care, education, job training, disaster preparedness, housing needs, and more. Overview of Responsibility: - Perform thorough intakes for residents. - Develop a familiarity with area services for referrals. - Go on home visits as a part of needs assessments. - Make recommendations for services to bring into neighborhood. - Assist other case managers in program development and other on going projects. Position Requirements: - A background in social services preferred (academic or volunteer/work experience) - Intern must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. - Past experience helpful, but we expect to have to teach you how to do this if you are a highly motivated, self-directed, responsible person with a track record of successful achievements. - Intern must be able to work alone and with team members. - Intern must be able to think, work and function independently. - Intern must be entering junior or senior year in college. - Access to a car or bike for transportation. - A laptop or computer. - Full-time availability (40 hours/week).
