SmartART Is your child bursting with creative energy? Interested in the arts? A hands on learner? Are you looking for small group or private lessons to inspire and develop these interests in your child? If you answered yes to any of these questions, SmartART is for you providing a comfortable, informal learning environment for children 6 years and older. Group sizes are limited to provide the best learning experience with individual interests and learning styles taken into account.

SmartART is a local, community-based art school run from a home based studio. The goal of programs is to integrate creative work into students daily lives. SmartART aims to inspire students, following their enthusiasm, passion and imagination while teaching basic and more advanced artistic skills and techniques.

Variations on a Fruit

SmartART Foundations

Simple objects such as fruit, containers or other household items are used to teach qualities of geometric objects and how to draw and paint them. We start from simple and go to fantastic using the rules of colour theory, perspective and fun! All levels.

Eight-week introductory group sessions focusing on cartooning, drawing and claywork.

Tour to local foundry included --- see sculptures poured from bronze and other metals! All levels.

Cards, Cards, Cards

Inspire your child to get excited about art using Nintendo, Pokemon and other cards as a springboard for creative work. Claywork, drawing and colour introduced. All levels.

SUMMER CAMPS (ages 6-9 and 10-12) Art and Nature Summer Camp

Drawing from nature and the local waterfront - shrubs, plants, trees and local wildlife. Gorgeous drawings, painting and multimedia collage will be the result!

Pottery Camp

Beautiful painted clay creations using coil, slab and the wheel will be the result. Visit to pottery open studio included. Private Studio

Ongoing private or semi-private classes tailored to each child. Coaching and support of hands on individual interests, with a focus on drawing basics, colour composition, perspective, glazing and colour mixing in various media. Sculpture, photography, design and other areas based on student interest. Tour of local art school can be arranged. All levels.

Studio Drawing and Painting Camp

Perspective, 3D, still life, landscape, cartooning/ comicking explored based on age level and group interests. 2009 Schedule YEAR ROUND ACTIVITIES Sept 2009 - June 2010

One day a week for 8 weeks. Total $200.00 per course per child. Maximum 8 participants. Once per week Mon, Tues, Weds or Fridays starting from 4:30 pm, Saturdays 1-3pm. Private studio individually scheduled. 1.5 hours recommended. SUMMER CAMPS

Hands on Home Ec

Baking, cooking, food buying and prep … take these to new heights with basic and gourmet cooking and other creative hands on activities. Learn about nutrition, and the origins of sugar and chocolate! Tour the kitchen of a local restaurant to see how things really work. All levels.

Art and Nature Summer Camp & Pottery Camp – Summer 2009

Camps run in July and August in one week increments. July 13 to 17 or August 16 to 21 confirmed weeks to date. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily; $280.00 per student. Student to supply own lunch. Refreshments provided.
