While many of the students taking AP courses do well, those in Dual Enrollment are not as successful. On average, only 72% of students pass their courses and receive college credit. Identify supporting contextual (perception) data (from relevant stakeholders) to further understand this goal:
Conversations with liaisons at the Dual Enrollment center suggest that the amount of students passing is unacceptable, which could result in a reduction of classes offered. Surveys of the teachers also portray a sense that students are not ready to take college level courses, such as an inability to multitask or procrastination issues. La Vergne High School relies on the partnered community college to guide the students enrolled in Dual Enrollment. While this mimics a real college experience, it provides little support for students that might be unprepared and unorganized. At the moment, there are not programs or activities dedicated to the Dual Enrollment program at La Vergne High School. Identify possible school counselor interventions/strategies to address this goal:
Group counseling involving students that have previously struggled with Dual Enrollment would be an effective strategy to help them learn techniques to manage time and balance college-level classes and high school. It would also be helpful to partner with the college to create a support system for students.
