By Jack Rinaldo This fall two snowboarding movies, Here and There a film by local snowboard shop Phatman, and That’s It, That’s All, a film by Red Bull and Quiksilver, were shown at the Palace Theatre in Lockport. Here and There is very good for a locally produced film. It features local riders snowboarding in many locations, from good old Western New York to the big mountains out West. That’s It, That’s All features Travis Rice and a crew of highly talented riders like Jeremy Jones, Danny Kass, and Brian Iguchi. They travel all over the world, riding at Travis’ home mountain of Jackson Hole to others exotic places like New Zealand, British Columbia, Alaska, The Alps, and Tokyo. Travis and the other riders were caught on HD cameras, with a great soundtrack to make the movie even better.
Websites for when you’re bored By Matt Kubit Transworld snowboarding has been the most popular snowboard magazine in the world since it was established in 1987. Transworld Snowboarding magazine has an annual subscription of about 1,380,000 versus Snowboarder magazine at 800,000. It is one of a few magazines with a matching website that is published by Transworld Media. Transworld Media publishes Transworld Surf, Transworld Skateboarding, RIDE BMX, Transworld Motocross and Transworld Business.
Transworld Snowboarding’s website grew exponentially in popularity just before the turn of the century when they began featuring videos of professional competitions. Their video selection is still growing. They now feature at least one new video everyday in high quality ranging from the Monday Mallet (the weekly slam), to the Thursday theatre (weekly professional submissions), to Sunday in the park (a weekly submission from Bear Mountain in California). There is such a vast range of videos now, not to mention the huge professional photography that is sub-
mitted every week. In January of 2008 user profiles were created so that subscribers and internet goers alike can create their own profile allowing them to submit their own videos and photos to be posted on TransworldSnowboarding.com. Every time you log on to Transworldsnowboarding.com expect to see a new feature, video, article, or photo gallery that proves why Transworld Snowboarding has the most popular snowboard magazine and website on the planet.

By Corena Christensen The Schuss bus ride to Snowflake Ski Shop/245 Snowboard Shop turned out awesome. A decent sized group of people came along to score on the deals that were offered at the store, just for schuss members. Bonnie, the store owner, had pizza and soda waiting for everyone when we arrived, which was great because it was later at night and it was almost (kinda sorta) snowing and we were all pretty amped out that!! If you’ve never been to Snowflake/245 you have to
check it out. The store has two floors; the upstairs is the ski shop floor and the downstairs is the snowboard shop floor. The best perk of the two floors is the intense amount of inventory (probably the largest and most even selection for the two sports that I’ve seen). So stop by before the season starts and get decked out in some sweet gear from companies like Burton, Ride, Libtech, K2, Line, Rossignol, and Roxy. Check out snowflakeskishop.com or hit up 245 Transit Rd.
By Nader Jamal When you think of park and pipe, Tanner Hall and Simon Dumont are two of the biggest names known, especially in the US. Although they may be Mr. Popular in the UK and the other Mr. Popular here in the US, there’s a Swede that has been one of the biggest innovators in the sport, and is throwing down in ways unheard of before him. Jon Olsson is one of the most creative pro skiers known, and is responsible for the inventions of variances of flips and double flips, including the switch double rodeo 1080 (better known as a Hexo Flip) and what he is best known for, the Kangaroo Flip, which is a Double Flat Spin 900, a trick that has been known to win a handful of competitions for him, including the 2008 X Games Gold in Big Air. In his home mountain in Sweden, a pro invitational is held every year, appropriately named the Jon Olsson Invitational, and is one of the biggest celebrities in his countries. Every time he wins competition, he promises to buy a new car with his prize money, the most popular being his Lamborghini Gallardo, complete with a snow camouflage paint job and a ski rack. With over 10 X Games medals, and countless firsts in a number of other big comps, including in the World Superpipe Competition and The US Freeskiing Open, Olsson is at the top of his game and it’s safe to say that skiing will never be the same thanks to Jon.

Meet Brian, He Needs New Pants
By Brian Butterfield This year is that year; the year every few years when it is necessary to get new pants. My old pants are falling apart. My old Columbia pants worked well for years but now I am looking for new pants that will do as well as they did. The 686 Mannual Cranium pants are number one on my list. They are waterproof and breathable. They are fleece lined with a lot of pockets for all my stuff. Along with being warm for frigid January days, they have zip able slots that provide vents for squeezing in the last runs of the season in April. These pants look cool, are functional and convenient. 686 has done a good job with these pants and I hope to be skiing in them as soon as possible.
