Gillian Myers Skills Check Reflection April 10th, 2019
Skills Check In the Advanced Healthcare Pathway, we used an ultrasound to monitor athletes heartbeats, along with an e-stim to measure strength. We use athletic tape, pre-wrap, tuff skin, whirlpool, and more to help our athletes regain their maximum performance. In our most recent lab on April 12th, we have applied our knowledge of how to fix an ankle sprain. This was achieved by performing a closed basket weave wrap consisting of 3 anchors at the base of the gastrocnemius wrapping ½ inch each time. Next is the stirrup that is wrapped medial to lateral to prevent inversions. This starts from the top of the ankle and ends on the other top side. Then we do horse shoe which is wrapping around the back of the ankle medially to laterally, we repeat the stirrup and horse shoe 3 times, alternating with each step. The next to last step is the heel lock which starts at the base of the gastrocnemius and circles around the ankle and under the foot, this step is done to each side of the foot. The last step is to perform a figure eight which starts at the base of the gastrocnemius and wraps under the ankle. We finally fill in any gaps that are left behind, our main goal is to prevent another inversion and to stabilize the leg.
