Dear YMCA Friends Couple hours ago we came back from Prague. After several days of celebration we received horrible message from Georgia - our country is at war again. Georgian and Armenian delegations were unable to fly back home and were held up for 3 days in Prague due to emergency situation. Due to great help of YMCA Europe Regional Secretary Vardan Hambardzumyan, 70 people managed to get over these 3 days of hardship. We flew to Yerevan on August 13th, from where we traveled to Tbilisi on minibus that was provided by our Armenian friends. Part of Georgian delegation had to fly to Istanbul and travel to West Georgia from there, as there are russian army checkpoint along the main highway and people are unable to travel from Western to Eastern Georgia. Currently horrible atrocities are committed by russian forces and their criminal gang allies from Northern Caucasus - killing, rapes, looting, marauding and etc. Today, the members of our YMCA met with Latvian YMCA volunteers that work in Georgia - they are entitled to coordinate aid that is provided by Latvian NGOs. We were invited to cooperate as partners. We would like to call upon you - the friends and partners of the YMCA of Georgia to find resources for displaced people that currently live in horrible situation and require immediate help. They urgently need the following items: beds; bed linen; utensils; hygiene items, etc. Besides, we would like to elaborate special rehabilitation programs for displaced youth that currently live in Tbilisi and continue working in this field upon their return to their respective towns and villages. Please consider your capacity and notify us about your possible involvement in this actions. Please see and spread this video that depicts current situation in Georgia. We need and hope for your support.
