RESEARCH & COMPETITION EXPERIENCE Groove Design for Controlling Thick Plate Butt-welding Angular Distortion May 2018 Construction Craft Mechanics Simulation Laboratory, Advisor: Wang Jiangchao, HUST • Utilized parallel calculation method to speed up calculation process (decreased calculation time by 79.3% on temperature field and 73.4% on stress field) • Used thermal elastic-plastic finite element analysis code to calculate 40-40mm plate butt-welding angular distortion • Designed 6 different types of grooves by keeping the width of the groove constant and changing the ratio (h1/h2) between the height of the upper and the lower groove • Obtained optimal parameter (h1/h2=5/9) and controlled the final distortion within 2mm Numerical Analysis on Effects of the Welding Deformation of Stiffened Plate Structure Apr 2017 Construction Craft Mechanics Simulation Laboratory, Advisor: Wang Jiangchao, HUST • Adopted the elastic FE method using Patran to conduct numerical simulation of 3 common welding sequences for a typical stiffened plate structure • Designed 3 welding processes, including materials selection, modeling, welding sequence design, welding simulation, deformation analysis, scheme comparison and conclusion • Concluded that the central radial welding method exerted relatively less plate deformation than other method • Completed a paper about the research that was included in CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), and won Third Prize in the 10th Wuhan Ship and Marine Engineering Postgraduate Academic Forum A Funnel-Shaped Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Capture Device Design Jul 2017 • Designed a capture device that could help make UUV callback process automatic and improve working efficiency • Led team of 4 and completed modeling in SolidWorks including the recycling unit, transferring and locking device • Rendered working simulation video using SolidWorks and Adobe Premiere Ocean Vehicles Modeling Competition Aug 2016 • Calculated and optimized various properties including dimensions and materials to meet the mechanical requirements • Drew sketches using AutoCAD and utilized a laser cutter to make elements and assembled the ship model
