Our dreams got words We are very much pleased to launch this e-magazine, which is the result of unbound energy of the youth and blessings of the seniors. The energy of the youth and blessings of seniors always inspire us to do something new .This book is just a result of the inspiration and is a link to the forthcoming events. We want to tap the unbound talent of our community members irrespective of their age and location. This time we didn’t have much time for collection of articles from within the community and since we have to inaugurate the magazine in ARUNABAHA Delhi on 23rd August 2009, so the articles are limited. This book is a medium to reach among one thousand members of our community, whose email ids are with us. At Present the circulation is only limited to those who are present in the virtual world of internet. Eventhough there are some constraints, we hope that Shak Patrika will certainly search new horizons to 3ly and reach in every home in printed version in near future. We need dedicated members, who will be responsible for the distribution of the magazine, if we go for print media in near future. This e-print issue consists of limited number of articles but we would like to add contributions from every age group, even 3yr old child’s painting .We are also thinking of starting the matrimonial column from forthcoming issues. We are open to suggestions and feedbacks regarding articles from our respected members. We hope that from next editions we would have so many good articles that editors would have to think again and again, regarding ,which articles to incorporate in the present issue and which one to keep for future issue. We would request all the community members to come forward to serve our community for a pious cause and better tomorrow of our future generations. Team Shak Patrika

Education

A Desperate Need

Our past has been glorious but the present has lost shine and if the situation

remains as it is the future might be very grim. I ind that we are lagging

behind other revered Brahmins of the society in various aspects.

By Amit Kumar

It is my distinct pleasure to pen down a few pages in the inaugural issue of the Shakdwipi e-magazine “Shak-Patrika”. Like all other members of this community I too am proud of our rich heritage. Shakdwipi Brahmins have always been one of the most revered Brahmins of this country. There have been several learned Shakdwipi Brahmins without whose contributions the world could not have been where it is today.

Our past has been glorious but the present has lost shine and if the situation remains as it is the future might be very grim. I find that we are lagging behind other revered Brahmins of the society in various aspects. When I introspect for the reasons, a couple of things come to my mind: first of all we are very much divided in that Shakdwipis are confined to several parts of this nation and there is lack of connectedness among the various groups, second reason especially among the shakdwipis confined to Bihar and Jharkhand is poverty and as a result of this poverty many individuals are not getting proper education. Among with poverty lack of education becomes the third reason. Now people can guess where I was trying to take them along with my lines. Yes, lack of education and how to combat this burning issue is what we will be trying to address through this section of the “Shak-Patrika” magazine in the forthcoming issues. We all are aware about the importance of education and I feel that it would be a sheer wastage of time and space

if I keep on restating the importance of education.

I would like to attract your attention that there have been several examples within our society itself where a group of person, who overcame a difficult situation, set an example by giving back to the society in such a way that liberated not only a few but also changed the lives of hundreds and thousands of people. Most of you would have been aware of the name of Patwa Toli Gaya. A group of students cleared IIT from this very poor toli a couple of years back and since then various students from this toli have been successfully clearing the IIT each and every year. This would not have been possible had the first group, who cleared the exams, thought of themselves only and never decided to pull their fellow brethren from the darkness of ignorance.

The same principle applies to us also. The problem is that we all have struggled in our life to get to where we are and after reaching there we just get caught up in the web of problems which life kept passing on us. In between we forgot our roots and the roots became weaker. I would not say that all of us behaved in the same way, it might be possible that some of us would have tried to give back to the society but then finding oneself all alone we lost and then slowly left thinking that one man can’t bring the change.

When I see the communities, who have flourished well and are growing at rapid pace I find a few things common among all of them. First is the zeal to excel and second is that those who excel are working to uplift their entire community. It means people in these communities have started to think in win-win way. This thing I think is severely lacking among us and that’s why we instead of going forward are receding backwards. We need to take care of this and inculcate the win-win attitude to keep our community alive and revered.

students of our community. We will try to provide solutions to such problems. There are various learned members in our community who can provide guidance to students directly or indirectly. We would also be updating student community about various available career options and the path to be followed to attain their goals.

Our initial steps will be mainly to keep the students updated and try to solve their smaller problems, I know people will say these are very small steps but I would say each and every sinI would not keep writing much about the problems as most of gle step towards the goal counts just like each and every drop us are aware of the same. I also feel that we all want to get our counts for a filled glass. Once we get Shakdwipis across all community liberated from the problems as all of us know that India connected, we will try to have local units, which can take wherever there has been a problem, there lies a solution also. care of the students of a particular area, and then we will try to ascertain that meritorious students do not The need is to respond to the problem in such Once we get get deprived of higher education due to a way as to wipe out the problem entirely. If we want to make our community prosperous Shakdwipis across all lack of funds or any other guidance issue. All this will certainly happen but remember and bring it at par with other Brahmin comIndia connected, we that this is just beginning and we have simmunities of our country, we must focus on education. I don’t find any other means as strong will try to have local ply taken a step forward. We will keep moving towards our goal without being deas education, which can help us, overcome the units who can take terred by the problems coming in between grim situation, prevailing within our community. care of the students and will certainly revive our glorious past.

I know that even our government is struggling of a particular area, From next issue onwards we are trying to hard to impart education to all and that we and then we will try to make the e-magazine and all of its sections are not as sufficient as the government is, in interactive so that Shakdwipis from all any respect, but still I would like to say that ascertain that meritoparts of country and even abroad can why not start at micro level? Even if each one rious students do not freely participate in the magazine. I would of us will be able to change the life of one fellow member it would be sufficient as this get deprived of higher especially like to ask our student members to come up with their problems so that we done repeatedly would create a chain reaceducation due to lack can try to find a possible solution to their tion and all of us know how powerful chain reactions are.(Chain reactions are the force of funds or any other problems. I would also request various behind energy of sun and that of destructive learned members of the community to write guidance issue. power of nuclear bombs). Each single step toarticles on their field of work, so that these wards the goal counts. Collectively we can change lives of several persons and ultimately we will be up- can act as a source of inspiration and eye-opener to our students. lifting our entire community. This is the inaugural issue of the e-magazine and there will be various issues in the future not only e-issues but also print issues, so that we can reach to those of our brethren who are not connected via internet. Through the education section of this magazine we will be exploring various problems faced by the

With a hope that next time onwards the educational section of this magazine as well as other sections will be highly interactive and will help students and members of the community in various aspects of their studies and life respectively I am putting my pen down.

happiness In search of ivaivaQaa

As a human, it is almost impossible to get off from expectation and worry but impossible itself says – I’m possible. Only hope for this impossibility is hidden in a contemplative life, which can be achieved through spirituality. By Devesh S N Bhatta

S

ometime I think why I am not able to find even a single happy face around me. I generally ask this question to all and I get only one response – “why should I?”. May be they start answering with a typical answer “I’m fine” but their answer ends with - “why should I?”. Even after asking this question to many people around me, I am not able to find an exact reason behind the hidden sorrow behind a smiling face but what I found is, somewhere it is related to expectations and worries. Expectation from God, Expectation from friends, Expectation from family, Expectation from relative, Expectation from livings, Expectation from non-livings ………Expectation from each and every thing around us expect expectation from our self. In the same fashion we are worried for every thing around us. As a human, it is almost impossible to get off from expectation and worry but impossible it self says – I’m possible. Only hope for this impossibility is hidden in a contemplative life, which can

22 Saak piHaka isatmbar 2009

be achieved through spirituality. If any body wants to be happy person then S/he must try to go deep inside the spirituality which is itself not a easy task. We can minimize our habit to keep expecting and worrying by maximize believe in asceticism. Six paths are directly or indirectly mentioned in almost every spiritual text especially in text from Puratan Dharma and they emphasize on asceticism. Deny any reward or punishment for either good or bad deeds.

Every living and non-living entity in this mortal world, is just a puppet operated by the great puppeteer of the universe. We do what supreme power wants us to do. Humans are the favorite creation of great puppeteer so humans are attached with long strings and gifted with a tiny brain. Some thing like an artificial intelligence enabled robot which are controlled by its owner. Whatever good or bad we do should be rewarded or punished by supreme power. Who are the human to reward or pun-

ishment for either good or bad deeds of other? We all know this but we always keep thinking about reward for self and punishment for other which is a cause of suffering… We are powerless but suffering is optional

As mentioned in above paragraph, Humans are powerless puppet, but in our whole life span we always follow materialistic power in terms of monetary, physical, social, political etc, to make thing happen in favour of ourself. We keep trying hard to make our life certain and painless. It is human who has chosen worrying and suffering. Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional. The soul and Pleasure-Pain are eternal

There is no beginning or end of pleasure and pain. More you want more you find. You can find a person in pleasure who has nothing and at same time you can find a person who has every thing but suffering with an unknown pain. Suffering is wanting what we can't get and not wanting what we can. World is full of pleasure and pain and its depends on individual that what S/he want to chose and how much. Thousands of lines has been written on the eternality of soul and obviously these lines have been read by millions but Do we ever able to believe in eternality of soul and certainty of death?

There is no beginning or end of pleasure and pain. More you want more you find. You can find a person in pleasure who has nothing and at same time you can find a person who has every thing but suffering with an unknown pain. Suffering is wanting what we can't get and not wanting what we can.

Death is certain, with death, all is annihilated.

“Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.” – Peter Tosh. Everyone wants to have a life of heaven, annihilated from all type of sorrow. We forget that with death, all is annihilated; one can achieve MOKSHA only after death. We all live with necrophobia that’s why we don’t want to die. This phobia is with us because we know that we will we rewarded or punished by almighty for our deeds and no one want to be punished. How can we come out from the fear of death? Answer is - by the avoiding evil inside and outside us. Restrain can help in the avoidance of all evil.

Our ATMANA can be endowed, cleansed by and suffused with avoidance of evil, which exist inside us or out side us. We need a strong self restraint to the avoidance of evil. Every human has willpower and with their will power they can develop self restraint. We lose our willpower because we think lots. We think every thing but we never think ‘yes’ (i.e. certainty). We always think either ‘not’ or not ‘not’.

Don't think so. Don't think in that way or otherwise. Don't think not or not ‘not’

Today we keep thinking even when we are sleeping. We think because we are worried. We are worried about expectation from us and our expectation from other. We keep thinking what if we do ‘not’ live up to expectation. Our today is the tomorrow that we worried about yesterday. We are worrying because the act of worrying has become a habit. That’s why worrying became a reason of sorrow. Above mention paths are known as Amoralism, Fatal-ism, Material-ism, Eternal-ism, Restrain-ism and Agnostic-ism. I found all six paths are related and depends on each other.
