Del. Smigiel – I had to follow up on the quote you attributed to Lincoln earlier because it struck my ears as anachronistic in its form and content. Indeed you were not quoting the words of Mario Cuomo’s favorite Republican; instead the author of what has come to be known as “The Ten Cannots” was an early-twentieth century orator and Presbyterian minister: http://tinyurl.com/Lincoln-quote-debunked I learned you’re in good company. President Reagan mistakenly attributed the same quote to Lincoln while addressing the memorable 1992 Republican National Convention.
