Johnson 1 Seth Johnson Ms. Wilson March 5, 2019 Period 3 Regionals I learned at regionals a very hard taught lesson about life, hard work. Hard work is the most important thing a person can have in this life. It is the key to success and achieving everything you desire. I learned this the hard way by working for something I dreamed to achieve for a long time. It was the first match at regionals, and I got beat 6-1 by the Leesville kid. The match was quite decisive, but I didn’t lose my honor and didn’t let him pin me. I never got a good shot on the kid. I thought I would win due to my experience in wrestling, but experience doesn’t always mean you will do good in the things you are working at. After the first match, it left me angry and raging. I could not get the match off my mind, what if I did this, or that. I was not ready for the next match up to come. I was warming up and my father came up to me and calmed me down enough to warm up properly and ready up for the next match. I went up to the mat with nothing but glimmer in my eyes and a bowed chest. I walked up to the line and shook my opponents’ hand, the whistle blew. I started off strong, but he got points on me, so it got to my mind. The only thing I could hear was my coach and my father yelling at me. My coach told me to keep my head up and I came back and wrestled a match. In the end of the last period I took a shot, took him down and let him up. I took another shot, but we went out of bounds. In the last three seconds I tried to throw him, but to no avail I didn’t have enough time and lost by 3 points. The match could have yielded
Johnson 2 different results if my mind was in the right place. I might have gone up in the brackets and gone to state.
I still lost but it made me a whole lot better of a wrestler than I would have been if I didn’t learn, if I didn’t at least try. In that match I lost 6-9, but It taught me a life lesson. I put all my effort in that match, and it got me places later in life. The practice after regionals was amazing because I worked so hard I could feel the future being better than if I wasn’t practicing. The lesson I learned will help me in the future whether it be paying bills, or paying car payments, I’ll always know when I put effort in to what I am doing ill always get the best results. It will help me in future wrestling. The lessons learned will always help in life, when I get into trouble and think I can’t get out of it, I can use these lessons I have learned. They help in basic situations too, because if you do your best and then get the best result and feel a sense of pride. Something as simple as making your bed in the morning will make you feel pride in yourself. In everyday situations you can use your hard work and feel pride. When I lost in regionals, I was sad, but I knew I worked to the best of my ability and it almost got me to where I wanted to go. When people decide to work hard, they can achieve anything they want, such as the creator of space x, Elon musk created a self-driving car that can be put of auto drive if need be or if you don’t want to drive. The creator of apple, Steve jobs created the iPhone which everyone uses daily. This just shows the significance of hard work and the effect it leaves on everybody around. I never would have made it far in life without hard work and the experience I had. In 2016, I went to a tournament in Oklahoma, The Oklahoma state games. I placed fourth in the tournament. Through my hard work I managed to beat a kid I didn’t think I could ever beat with nothing but hard work. There is a saying, when talent fails hard work makes up for it, and this is true. If I never worked hard in practice or in duels, or tournaments, I would be a mediocre wrestler. I worked hard to achieve
Johnson 3 what I wanted. I could have never made it with out hard work. People are afraid to work hard because it is hard work. If everybody were to work hard around the world then the modern world then, the world would be better.
