Sensors gather information from the environment through measuring mechanical, thermal, biological, chemical, optical and magnetic phenomena. The electronics then process the information derived from sensors and through some decision making capability direct the activators to respond moving, positioning, regulating, pumping and filtering and thereby controlling the environment for some desired outcome or purpose. Thermal (temperature, heat and heat flow) Mechanical (force, pressure, velocity, acceleration, position) Chemical (concentration, ph, reaction rate) Magnetic (field intensity, flux density, magnetization) Radiant (intensity, wavelength, polarization, phase) Electrical (voltage, charge, current)
