For one week every school year, each grade goes on a different educational adventure, where students take part in a variety of experiential learning opportunities across Canada and the world. These trips include:
Grade 7: Introduction to Outdoor Skills, Gatineau Park, Québec Grade 8: Wilderness Survival Course, St-Sauveur, Québec Grade 9: Kenauk Dog Sledding Adventure, Montebello, Quebec Grade 10: Fort Henry and St. Lawrence II, Kingston, Ontario Grade 11: Huntsman Marine Science Centre, St. Andrews, New Brunswick Grade 12: Punta Mona and St. Luis, Costa Rica

At Sedbergh School we challenge all students both in the classroom and outdoors with our unique educational experience, which emphasizes academics, athletics, outdoor programs, and environmental awareness. This approach prepares Sedbergh graduates for university and life’s challenges and successes. Our small, supportive and familylike learning environment, coupled with a unique approach to education, allows students to thrive academically, while developing essential life skills.

school Academics The unique academic curriculum of Sedbergh School uses integrated programs and takes advantage of our small, supportive learning environment to prepare all students for university and beyond. Our extraordinary teachers and staff take advantage of all teachable moments wherever and whenever they appear. This allows for learning to take place both in the classroom and out. Sedbergh students experience courses unique to Sedbergh such as: Wilderness Integration Course (WIC): The WIC program focuses on delivering course content, such as history and moral education through hands-on experiences in outdoor environments.
A school rich in tradition and built on an appreciation for the outdoors Sedbergh at a Glance Founded in 1939 Situated on 1200 acres 95% boarding school Boarding population 80 Small class sizes Grades 7 – 12 Students are prepared for CEGEP after Grade 11 or university after grade 12 100% university placement
Sedbergh School was founded in 1939 by Thomas J. Wood, Vera Wood and Frank Duxbury. Both T.J. Wood and Frank Duxbury had been teaching at Ontario’s Lakefield College School when they decided to venture out on their own. With the help of Chief Jack Rabbit Johannsen, a legendary outdoorsman, Wood and Duxbury chose the 1,200 acres in Montebello, Quebec as the campus for their new school. With this spectacular setting, the school’s programming utilized the vast acreage of wilderness as a venue for more than just a traditional education. The modern day school continues many of the outdoor traditions of the school’s founders, while challenging each student academically and preparing them for university and their future success. Sedbergh School has always been an inclusive and diverse school. Originally a boy’s school, in 1989 girls joined the school’s community. Further, the school’s diversity is built by students from a wide range of socio-economic and international backgrounds. Currently, the school is comprised of students from a minimum of 10 countries.

Environmental Leadership Course: The integrated program ELC, examines environmental science-geography, ecology, economics, ethics and leadership. This unique course is designed to create an awareness of and an appreciation for the natural world we live in.
Grade 12 Thesis Project: Grade 12 students develop their own written thesis project and verbal defence. This important element of the grade 12 year strengthens research, analytical and communication skills, which are critical for success in university and beyond.
Athletics, Outdoor, and Adventure Programs Sedbergh Students are fortunate to live, study, and play on a campus that provides an incomparable venue for outdoor activities. As a result students stay active through a variety of organized sports and outdoor activities. Sedbergh students participate in a wide variety of intramural and competitive sports. Our vast campus allows students to participate in on-site activities such as: • Cross Country skiing • Downhill skiing • Outdoor hockey • Rugby • Soccer • Weight training • Hiking • Mountain biking • Canoe/kayak • Tennis • Yoga • Ultimate frisbee
Students also participate in organized sporting events such as: • The Canadian Ski Marathon • The Terry Fox Run • The Ottawa Race Weekend • Point to Point run • 24 Hours of Tremblant ski race • Johannsen Ski meet
