A 1.4-km river bridge of 96.2-m spans
Foundations to piers with varying depths between 42 m and 65 m below riverbed
Construction cost: US$ 26 million
It consists of 13 main spans of 96.2 m and 4.63 km of approach roads. The box girders were built using innovative first-time technologies in India, adopting precast segmental construction for the superstructure and erecting the precast quality segments using a purpose designed launching girder. The two-lane deck consists of a 7.5-m wide carriageway with 1.5-m wide footpaths on either side and is located 29 m downstream of the existing bridge.
The foundations to piers were single cast in-situ sunk in caisson with varying depths between 42 m and 65 m below riverbed. Upon completion, the Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers (IIBE) recognized the project with a first prize for the “Most Outstanding Bridge National Awards 2000.”
