Education in America
Q. Do all American students study the same subjects? A. No, but most American students study basic Arithmetic, English grammar, social studies and science.
Q. Who decides what American kids study? A. Each state decides the curriculum for the schools in that state. Cities and counties (provinces) also have their own School Boards, which set guidelines for the schools.
The American Grading System
American students are graded in one of three ways: •Letters: A-F •Numbers: 0-100 •Grade Point Average (GPA): 1.0-4.0 (university)

Colleges And Universities
American students begin to attend school when they are 5 or 6 years old.
American students typically go to Elementary or Primary School for 6 years, or until the 6th Grade.
After Elementary school, they go to Junior High School or Middle School for 2-4 years and then they attend High School for 4 years. Americans typically graduate from High School at age 18.
There is a lot of variety in education experiences. Some people go to an Elementary school for 8 years, others go for 6 years.
School Statistics •10% of American students attend private schools. •About 2% of students are “home-schooled” – taught at home. •Students go to school for about 6 hours a day, 175-185 days per year. Generally, they have summer vacation from mid-June until the first week in September.
