CAPITAL DISTRICT KIWANIS FOUNDATION ROBERT H. TURNER, JR KEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation will provide several scholarships in the amount of $1000.00 each to eligible Key Club members at the 2009 Capital District Key Club Convention in Richmond, Virginia The scholarship recipients with the highest ratings will be identified as the Capital District Key Club Leadership winners at the Key Club International Convention in July 2009. Application forms and other information can be obtained from Key Club Presidents, Faculty Advisors, District Officers, and Board Members.

International Scholarships Key Club International also offers several scholarships. If interested, please go to Keyclub.org and click on the scholarship bullet for more information. Included in this packet is the application that must accompany your District application.

ROBERT H. TURNER, JR.

KEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

PURPOSE The Robert H. Turner, Jr. Scholarships are awarded annually at the Capital District Key Club Convention to Key Club Members who have exemplified to the highest degree the basic principles of Key Club – caring and service – in their home, school, and community. The recipients shall be of high moral character and should have achieved excellence in all their endeavors. The Robert H. Turner, Jr. Scholarships Program is funded by the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation as part of its commitment to supporting the Sponsored Leadership Programs in the Capital District

QUALIFICATIONS 1.

The applicant must have been an active member for two years of a Key Club in good standing.

2.

The applicant must be a graduating senior of an accredited high school program.

3.

The applicant must be a college, university, technical or vocational school bound student . The grade point average of the applicant must be “B” average or the equivalent of a 3.00 on a 4:00 scale.

An official high school transcript must be submitted or requested with the application.

Application materials shall be submitted to the Key Club District Administrator by the deadline established by the district. For further Information, please contact the District Administrator.

Financial need will not be a factor in the award. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

(Use a separate page, titled as indicated by the underline, for each item below)

1. List Key Club activities – Be sure to identify: Years in Key Club – Offices and committee chairs held at the club level - Projects chaired at the club level – Division, district and International activities attended (including PCM’s, ZEP’s and conventions) - Key Leader participation , - Hoby participation, Key club offices held at the division or district level – Key Club honors. 2.

List school organizations and activities to which you have contributed significantly, stating any office during your years in high school.

3. List religious and community activities to which you have contributed significantly during your years in high school. 4. List honors, awards or special recognition that you have received during your years in high school. 5. Letters of Recommendation from each of the following: *A Kiwanian (not necessarily a member of the club that sponsors applicants home Key Club) *A school official (administrator, teacher, counselor) *An individual of your choice 6. Write a two-page (typewritten, double-spaced) Essay on your involvement and leadership experiences in Key Club. 7. Include or request of copy of an official transcript be sent to the District Administrator. Note: It is important to remember that the approved application form must be used for this scholarship. If all items are not included in the application packet, the application will not be considered. Application materials become the property of Capital District Key Club and Key Club International and will not be returned. DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION PACKET MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN APRIL 1, 2009
