[edit] Criticism NOTE: Please read the discussion tab above before adding your own criticism. •

• • • • • • • • • •

There are complaints that the maximum volume of the handset's earpiece is inadequate in all but the quietest environments. However, a few users have found the maximum volume to be adequate. The LCD stays lit up while the phone is charging. There is no ability to disable the clock and date from being viewed on the main screen. SMS Tones cannot be changed. Alert for text messages cannot be set for audio alert and vibration at same time. SMS messages over a certain length are cut off. The mp3 player cannot work in background, it is either playing and leaving you unable to do anything else or not on. The mp3 player cannot fast-forward or rewind. The video player can only fast-forward and rewind three seconds at a time. The mp3 player can only hold one playlist. (Playlist can hold up to 100 songs) Mp3s stored in subfolders cannot be added to playlists.

• • • • • • • • •

If any mp3 in playlist is not playable (e.g. due to high bitrate), does not continue playing next mp3. No A2DP Bluetooth profile for stereo Bluetooth headsets. Charger, headset and data cable all use the same proprietary jack. eg. you cannot use a headset while charging it. All J2ME apps are installed in the "Games" folder instead of letting you choose "Games" or "Applications." No zoom function in viewing images. Arbitrary file size/bitrate limitations with no documentation. Will only record up to 1 megabyte of video even when recording mode is set to normal. There is no way to map the middle button to something other than open the browser. The navigation keys are flush with the surface, making it difficult to discern one from the other when not looking. These keys are also quite hard and slippery, making accuracy difficult. However, you get used to it.

[edit] Tips and Tricks •

You can purchase a 3.5mm headphone adapter at DayDeal.com for around $10.

Warning: Recent buyers (Dec. 2006) have reported that Daydeal is now shipping a different adapter that has severe quality issues despite the price being raised to $13. Update (December 11, 2006): DayDeal.com has investigated this matter and reports that quality issues with this product has been fully resolved. •

If you really want the backlight to stay off while charging, make sure the backlight dim setting is OFF, turn the phone off and leave the slider open. Obviously, you can't make/take calls with the phone off. You may play Variable bitrate MP3s that reach higher than the 192Kbps limit, as long as the first few seconds do not exceed it. Making voice calls using numeric pad & talking with slide down: When you make a call using numeric pad or need to press some number after call begins (eg. use of some 'international calling cards' require you to press PIN codes) and then 'slide-down', the call may be ended. To turn off this feature, go to Settings, then to 4 - Phone Settings and then to 3 - Slide Settings and set Down to 'Continue Operation'. If you don't want to change this setting, there is a trick to slide down without ending the call:

1. After the voice call is connected, put the call on speakerphone (Press middle button, Press 'Yes' for 'Enable speakerphone') 2. Now press some numeric key (1 - 9). Display will now show the number you pressed and not show the number you have called. 3. Slide down the phone (at this point, the call will not end) 4. Press 'C' to come back to main call display (that shows the number called) 5. Press middle button to turn off speaker phone

[edit] Create a Borderless Background 1. Using a mid-level or higher image editing program (the GIMP works well), create a canvas that is some multiple of 176 pixels wide and 220 pixels tall (eg. 704x880). If you are modifying an existing image, crop it to the largest possible multiple of 176x220. 2. Import, paste, or edit whatever you on the canvas. Remember to take into account the idle screen clock and other screen constants. 3. Once satisified, reduce your image with a scaling/resampling function so that it is 176x220, the exact size of the screen. 4. Save the image (JPG recommended for photos, GIF recommended for illustrations simple colour artwork, but refer above for other compatible formats). In any case, be sure that your file is under 100KB[source?] and that the filename is no longer than 32 characters or the phone will not allow you to set it as a background. 5. Move your file over to your phone by either using email, a data cable, bluetooth, or copy it to the Images folder of your microSD card. 6. Once the file has been moved over into the "Downloaded Graphics" folder of your phone using one of the previously mentioned methods, highlight the desired picture and select "Set as Background". The image should now be in place on your main screen, and there will be no borders. Enjoy.

[edit] Check the Exact Battery Percentage 1. From the idle screen type *#0228# or *#9998*228# 2. Press the down arrow twice.

[edit] Install a Java Application NOTE: Not all MIDlets are compatible with every phone. 1. Place both the ".jar" and ".jad" files for each application into the "Other" directory on the phone's internal memory. You can do this by putting them on your microSD's "Other" directory, putting it back in the phone, then copying the files to the phone's "Other" directory. Alternatively, if you have Bluetooth or the USB cable, you may use them with the Samsung PC Studio software to copy files to the phone's "Other" directory. 2. From the idle screen type: *#9998*5282# Choose Install MIDlet. The password is 235282. 3. Now it will show you the jar/jad files inside the "Other" directory. Select the .jad file you want to install. Press Install. If the the phone seems to freeze at this point, don't worry, just slide the phone closed (make sure the slider operation is set to cancel). If it says "Warning! This MIDlet is unsigned!", and you trust the program, select OK. Confirm installation by pressing Yes. It may take a few

seconds to install, then it asks if you want to start the application. Select No and you will return to the idle screen. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to install more applications. After successful installation, you may start the applications from the My Games Folder like any other game.

[edit] Unlock your D807 1. If you have changed your phone password, change your password back to the default 8 zeros (00000000). Also go to SETTINGS, SECURITY, then SIM LOCK and disable this before proceeding. 2. Insert a SIM card from a network other than the one your phone is locked to. 3. When Invalid SIM Card error comes up, type *#9998*3323# 4. A white screen will appear with an exit option. Press the right softkey to exit. 5. From the menu that appears, select the Malloc Fail option. This will reboot the phone and the normal service screens will appear. 6. Type *0141# and then press the green call key. "Personalization" or "Personalized" will appear. 7. Turn off your phone and put the original SIM back in. 8. Turn on your phone. You will receive a prompt to enter a password. 9. Type 8 zeros (00000000) (This is because the SIM LOCK Mentioned earlier gets switched back on) One user has reported that this is not a true unlock. The phone will be unlocked for that SIM in addition to the original carrier. For instance, if it's Cingular locked and you perform these steps with a T-Mobile SIM, you can use either of those two. If you then try to use eg. a Rogers SIM, it won't work unless you perform these steps with the Rogers SIM, after which the T-Mobile SIM will not work.

[edit] Interpret the Firmware Release Number Type *#1234# in your phone to see which firmware you have. Firmware release numbers look like the following examples: D500CEEB3 or D500AIDK6 • • • • •

D500 = Model number of the Samsung phone CE / AI = Branding type or country/region (CE is western europe, AI is TIM branding, etc) E / D = Year of the firmware release (D=2004, E=2005, F=2006, etc) B / K = Month of the firmware release (A=January, B=February, C=March, etc) 3 / 6 = Revision number of the software in that month (example CEEB3 is 'newer' than CEEB2)
