Ahmadabad: regional Flavours of Indo Islamic Traditions and Nationalism : Textiles, Step wells, Hindu Temples, Esoteric Jain Temples, Regional Islamic Architecture, Utensil museum, regional cuisine and the Essence of Gandhi and milestones in contemporary architecture
Day 1: Morning flight to Ahmadabad. Step wells in Gujarat and Rajasthan as traditional methods of water harvesting become almost similar to temples, intricately sculpted they have diverse functions and symbolism . The first day of the tour will comprise of a visit to a step well in Ahmadabad followed by a an out of town to the 10thc Sun Temple in Mode era. The tour will then proceed to the town of Patan the ancient 8th c capital has one of the most elaborate 11thc set well that is sculpted with images related to water cosmology. The visit to Patan will include a visit to the home of textile weavers who are engaged in weaving Patan sarees. The weaving technique is that of double Ikat. Ikat apparently goes out of In dia to other parts of the world from this center. We return to Ahmadabad and preceding the traditional Gujrati dinner will be a visit to a unique ‘utensil’ museum .
Day 2: Early morning Ahmadabad walk that covers Jain and regional Islamic Heritage. This will be followed by a visit to the textile museum. Post Lunch a visit to Gandhi’s Ashram (hermitage) and driving tour of some regional Islamic architecture along with contemporary architecture -work of la corbeau architecture in Headband as showcased in the Museum of Ahmadabad. We return to Delhi by the evening Flight.

II:
Journey through ‘forest’ of Salvation: Varanasi Varanasi is not only one of the oldest living cities of the world but a fascinating one. Having covered the city as part of the doctoral studies. Our Scholar will unravel some unique features of the town. This period to travel to Varanasi is rather auspicious. This is the time when there is one of the largest cultural displays of the Ramayana in the adjoining town of Ramnagar. The Ramlila of Ramnagar is unparalleled. While the maharaja of Varanasi sits atop an elephant thousands of people come with their small books and lantern and sing along with the performers. Besides this the tour will decode life and culture along the river ganga including interactions with funeral specialists.
Day 1: Drive to Sarnath to visit first the school of Buddhist studies followed by a visit to the Sarnath museum that houses one of the most spectacular Buddhist art pieces. Return to the city of Varanasi to view the river front worship of the River Ganges. A narrative on the symbolism of river worship will be performed. A drive to the town of Ramnagar
Day 2: Early morning drive to river front. We will access Varanasi on the boat. The stops will include a visit to the cremation ground, a medieval Maratha, Nepali Temple and much more. Return to the hotel for late breakfast and then go to visit the temple of India with a special lecture on Nation in Imagination. This will be followed by a peek into the textile industry and some shopping.
