I will be on Capitol Hill attending meetings as part of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Executive Nurse Fellows Spring Leadership Seminar on health care policy. As one of 60 RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows of the RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows, I am interested in having the opportunity to have an informal discussion with you regarding emerging health policy legislation and serving as a resource for you on future health policy issues. The Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows will be attending a 4-day health policy seminar April 1 – 5, 2009 in Reston, VA, focused on the policy making process as well as current and emerging health policy issues. The Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows program is an advanced 3-year leadership program for nurses in senior executive roles. The program, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (Princeton, NJ), focuses on a small cadre of nurses interested in making a significant impact on health care, including direct patient services, health professions education, and public health. Fellows are competitively selected based on their potential to achieve higher levels of leadership in our health care system. In my current role as Dean of Nursing at the College of Menominee Nation, I am faced with issues of educating nursing students in the current downsizing of healthcare institutions and increasing nursing faculty shortage. I understand that you have an interest in health care and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss these and other issues with you.
