1. (a) Give a brief study of case histories of failure of some civil engineering constructions due to geological drawbacks. (b) What is weathering of rocks? Analyze critically the process of weathering in granite. 2. (a) What is a mineral and the advantage of study of physical properties in mineral identification. (b) Write physical and chemical properties of quartz, and KYANITE. 3. (a) Describe the classification of rocks, and simple classification of Igneous rocks. DYKES and SILLS. (b) Explain common structures and textures of metamorphic rocks, GNEISS and SCHIST. 4. (a) Brief description of common types of folds, with sketches - their Civil Engineering importance. (b) Write geological Time scale and brief account of Gondwans and Deccan traps. 5. What are landslides? What are the causes and effects of landslides? Also discuss the preventive measures for landslides. 6. (a) What is the difference between free ground water and artesian water? (b) Define: i. ii. iii. iv.
