Dec. 5 - Religious Diversity Read: Ch. 7 (Koppelman) – Religion (126-148) >>>Hate Group web site (suggested sources: Hatewatch; ADL; Wikipedia) – H16 Select a web site of a hate group. Print 1 page from the site. Write a paragraph reflecting on the site. >>>Final projects due Final Project (FP) – 20 pt. - There are 3 options for your final project. Option 1: Mini-Lesson – 20 pt. – (Written Lesson Plan–12 pt.; Analysis–6 pt.) • Create a lesson related to diversity using a model which I will give you. o Turn in a written lesson plan based on the model provided. o Turn in any supporting documents. • Prepare a short (2 page) analysis of the lesson, reflecting on the lesson. o Incorporate at least one performance indicator from the EDPS285 standards. o Cite properly according to APA style. • All writing should use Standard American English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Final Project – Option 1: Mini Lesson – 20 pt. Points To receive full points 12 Lesson plan: Follows correct format; contains specific information; uses concrete verbs 2 Lesson plan: Fewer than 3 typos, grammar errors, etc. 3 Paper: Thoroughly and thoughtfully reflects on topic; ideas supported; clearly organized 1 Paper: Proper APA style 1 Paper: Connection to PUC standards 1 Paper: Fewer than 3 typos, grammar errors, etc. Option 2: Critical Analysis Paper – 20 pt. (Paper – 20 pt.) Write a 5-6 page paper focusing on one of the topics we have covered in this class. The paper should be an in-depth analysis of one or two situations or occurrences from your observations that are related to your chosen topic. • Make your points and support them with references to in-class discussions, readings from the class, films, or outside materials that you have used. • You must cite at least 5 references (APA style) – four of them may be materials from class. • Incorporate at least one performance indicator from the EDPS285 standards. • Cite properly according to APA style. • All writing should use Standard American English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. • The paper should be 5-6 double-spaced, typed (12 font) pages.

Option 3: Movie/Book Critique – 20 pt. (Paper – 20 pt.) Select a movie or a book that you think illustrates one or more of the diversity issues that we have covered in this class. Write a 5-6 page paper critiquing it from a diversity perspective. The paper should analyze the movie or book, and explain how it could be used in an educational setting. • Make your points and support them with references to in-class discussions, readings from the class, films, or outside materials that you have used. • You must cite at least 5 references (APA style) – four may be materials from class. • Incorporate at least one performance indicator from the EDPS285 standards. • Cite properly according to APA style. • All writing should use Standard American English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. • The paper should be 5-6 double-spaced, typed (12 font) pages.
