1. Cost Breakdown a. Ticket Cost Jetstar and Tiger Airways are the budget airlines that ply between Singapore and Shanghai. For luxury travel, Singapore Airlines is the best option. It takes about 5 hours to arrive in Shanghai from Singapore. Ticket costs depend on prevailing rates. Refer to these websites for more information. c. Food Shanghai is a food paradise. It is affordable to eat in restaurants and you may wish to try the road side stalls. But do look out for the hygiene.

1. Experiences sharing a. temporary residence pass i. 3 days upon landing in Shanghai ii.Different police stations in-charge of different districts. Please check with agent iii.Penalty of fine imposed for absence of residence pass b. Bring those old/ unwanted clothes over so that you can throw them away when you are coming back. This will save some space for your luggage. c. Tailor-made your blazer (full business attire) there at Lu Jia Bang Street. d. You can visit http://www.ctrip.com to plan your iternary in China. e. Buy a water distiller / dispenser (strongly encourage). i. Some areas give you a dispenser for free when you purchase a certain amount of water. ii.The cost of water per bottle varies from $8 RMB to $12 RMB, depending on place of residence. f. Be careful when crossing the roads in China. g. Ship your excess luggage back. Please check with http://www.chinapost.com.cn/english/index-e.htm for more details. i. By air: 1 kg = $30 ii.By ship 1 kg = $10 h. When returning your house to the landlord, make sure that you, the landlord and the agent (if any) are present when they check the house. i.

Double check the price of the utilities you need to pay from the relevant authorities if the landlord asks you to pay.

1. Places To Visit 5.1 Pudong a. Century Park: A must for nature lovers and those who love to see the greenery and flowers. One can enjoy the tricycle or boat ride there. Directions: Take MRT to century park station.

b. Shanghai Safari ( 上 海 野 生 动 物 园 ): Even though there are lesser animals as compared to the Singapore Zoological Garden, it still provides a very good experience, especially for those who have never been to a safari before or those who haven’t seen pandas. Directions: Take bus from Zhangjiang Tech Park. Check the net for more details.

c. Nan Hui Flower festival: The best time to go is during spring time. For flowers lovers, the festival provides very beautiful tulips and blossoms. Directions: Check the net for more details.

d. Lu Jia Zui / Dong Chang Lu area(陆家嘴,东昌路): There are a lot of shopping places, restaurants and pubs. It is located next to the Oriental Pearl. Prices are above average but slightly classier. Do visit the one and only Yaohan left in the world which is located at Zhang Yang road. Directions: Take MRT to Lu Jia Zui station e. Thumbs Plaza: A good dining place with a lot of restaurants and pubs around but not as crowded as Lu Jia Zui. Prices are slightly above average. Do visit the Haoledi KTV there, which provides a 12 to 6 KTV session for a reasonable price and comfort. A Carrefour is also located there. Directions: Take a cab, tell the driver “芳甸路,大拇指广场”. Very near Hi-P corporate.

f. Lan Cun Road (蓝村路):A place which offers cheap food. The satay (羊肉串) and all sorts of other kinds of 串 烧 are a must try. One must also try the Lanzhou ramen and there is a lot of Muslim food around. Directions: Within walking distance from Shanghai Sci/Tech museum.

g. Shanghai Sci/Tech museum: The place to go if you want to buy cheap goods at a really cheap price. Do try to bargain for at least less than half price. One can also go kite flying and rollerblading there. Of course, you can also visit the museum where an IMAX and OMNI theatre are housed. Directions: Take MRT to Sci/Tech museum station.

h. Chuan Sha ( 川 沙 ) : Located at the outskirts of Pudong, this place is comparable to Johor Bahru. Things are cheap there, but the place is also a bit chaotic. Directions: Take bus from Zhangjiang High Tech park station. GIP CHINA (SHANGHAI) 07/08

5.2 Puxi

a. Ren min Guang Chang area: This place is like the Central Business District (CBD) of Shanghai. There is a Raffles city (Capitaland mall) which looks exactly like a Singapore shopping centre. Do visit there if you are homesick, as you can find lots of Singapore stuff there. For those who wants shopping and dazzling lights, you can try Nanjing Dong road, a very crowded place but really beautiful. For the bookworms, you can find lots of books/ stationery along Fuzhou (福州路) road just beside Capitaland mall. There is a Shanghai city of books there, which offers a large collection of books at a cheap price. You may also want to visit the museum and city development plan exhibit beside Ren Min Guang Chang. Directions: Take MRT to Ren Min Guang Chang station.

b. Cheng Huang Miao (城隍庙):For those who love old Shanghai, this is a place where you can have a little glimpse of what old Shanghai was like. You must try the “小笼包” there, which is very famous. A very commercial place, but still a must go for those who is visiting to Shanghai for the first time. Do visit the Yu Yuan ( 豫 园 ) , a very beautiful private mansion if you like historical stuff. Directions: Within walking distance from the bund/ Ren Min Guang Chang.

c. The bund: This is the place that any foreigner who is visiting Shanghai for the first time must go. Enjoy the river scenery and watch the oriental pearl TV tower from far, along with a lot of other sky scrapers across the river bank in Pudong. Directions: Alight from Nanjing East road MRT station. Within walking distance.

d. Xu Jia Hui (徐家汇): If you want to buy digital stuff, this is the best place to go. It is comparable to Sim Lim Square of Singapore. There are a lot of good food around, including Singapore food, nice shopping centers but at a hefty price. They also have a Haoledi in that area. Directions: Take MRT to Xu Jia Hui station.

e. Nanjing West road (南京西路):There is a very famous “美食街” in the area. If you want to buy really branded goods, this is a place you have to go. Directions: Take MRT to Nanjing West road station.

f. Qi Pu road (七浦路):Another great and cheap shopping area. A must to visit especially if you enjoy retail therapy. It is even bigger than Shanghai Sci/ Tech park shopping area but it is harder to bargain as well. Directions: Within walking distance from Nanjing east road

g. Fudan University area: Fudan University is the top university in Shanghai and has a long history. There is a famous 五角大楼 around there which provides good shopping. Directions: Take MRT to Jiang Wan Zhen station.

h. Shanghai railway station: A good place to make glasses and shades. This place is where you need to go if you want to travel via train to all other parts of China. Directions: Take MRT to Shanghai railway station.

Qibao ancient town: Located at the western outskirts of Shanghai, this is a tourist attraction that provides an “ancient” perspective of Shanghai. There are lots of specialties and exhibits around. Directions: Take MRT to Xin Zhuang (辛庄) station. Then take bus from

there.

j.

Qing Pu: There are many places to travel around Qing Pu, including a famous water town Zhu Jia Jiao(朱家角). Directions: Take bus from shanghai stadium MRT station.

k. Xin Tian Di (新天地): This is the place where all the pubs and bars are located.
