The Reveal for Salmonella enteritidis (Se) Test System provides for the rapid recovery of Salmonella enterica serovar enteritidis in food, layer or broiler house environments and animal feed, allowing detection and presumptive indentification of the target organism.

The Test

Materials Required But Not Provided

To perform the test, a portion (120 µL) of the enrichment culture is placed into the sample port of the test device. The sample flows through the lateral flow device, providing distinct, visible results. If a line develops only in the control zone, the sample is negative for Salmonella enteritidis. If lines are present in the control and test zones, the sample is presumptively positive for Salmonella enteritidis.

Test Procedure 1. 2.

Pre-enrich sample. After incubation, transfer 1 mL of the pre-enrichment into 10 mL of Tetrathionate Broth (TT Broth). 3. Transfer 0.1 mL of the pre-enrichment to 10 mL of RappaportVassilliadis Medium (RV Medium). 4. Incubate the TT Broth and the RV medium 24 ± 2 hours at 42°C ± 0.2°. 5. Remove liquid samples from each tube and cool to room temperature. 6. Place 5 free falling drops (120 µL) from each sample into the sample ports of their corresponding test devices (one for each). 7. Read and record results after 15 minutes. 8. If one or both test devices display positive results, then the test is presumptively positive for Salmonella enteritidis.
