Research Proposal Theam: Topic:
Molecular Microbiology Rhizobium Symbiosis (Rhizobium Quorum sensing, Plant and Bacterial signalling)
Description: Rhizobium is the most well known species of the group of bacteria that acts as symbiotic Nitrogen Fixer. This bacterium can infect the roots of leguminous plants leading to the formation of nodules, where the nitrogen fixation takes place, the successful establishment of symbiosis is required a series of signal exchange between the plant and bacteria-Quorum sensing. In Quorum sensing bacteria constantly produces certain signaling molecules (N-acyl homoserine lactones) this bacteria also have a receptors that can specifically detect the signaling molecules (Inducers-Flavonoids) produced by plants. This signaling molecules and inducers are activate the expression of nodulation genes (rhiI, rhiABC, rhiR) present in bacteria, which they induce the nodule formation in plant root. Why, I had chosen this topic?
1) I did my Post Graduation in Microbiology in this I studied about Rhizobium Symbiosis 2) I have the Theoretical and practical knowledge to understand Microbial Morphology and their metabolisms
3) Botany is one of my subjects in my Graduation level, in this I studied about plant physiology and Plant -Microbial interactions in detailed. 4) I can able to recognize what are the biochemical reactions accurse in interaction between Plant and bacteria, because I have studies chemistry and biochemistry in my Graduation and post graduation levels. I think my Technical Skills and Theoretical knowledge is applicable to do research on this topic, that’s why I am chosen this topic. Expectations: 1) I am expecting training to utilize modern techniques in Molecular Microbiology to doing my research 2) I am also expecting studentship for my research
