INTRODUCTION Legal aid bureau was established on September 1970, with the main objective was to give legal aid and advice to the poor and those who deserves it under the Legal Aid Act 1971 (Act 26). During that time, this bureau was under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General Office. Where, on 1985, with establishment of the Ministry of Law, this bureau was placed under their jurisdiction until May 1995, where the ministry had been abolished. And now, this bureau was placed under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister Office until today. This bureau can deal with civil and syariah cases, such as plead guilty, petition for divorce, custody, will, and such as. On year 1973, an amendment had been made on the schedule of Act 26 by inserting the jurisdiction for this bureau to interfere with the criminal proceeding. Only if the accused want to plead guilty and wish to have his punishment mitigated. Then on year 1982, the field of jurisdiction for the legal aid bureau had been increased to the proceeding related to Children Act 2001 and criminal proceeding under the Minor Offences Act 1955. The next amendment was made to Act 26 on year 1984, where the qualification for a certain individual was raised so that more people will be able to get help regarding their law problems from this bureau. Ad the last amendment was on year 2003, involving a huge amendment regarding to the criminal jurisdiction, qualification limit, solicitor service and the name for the office in the bureau. With this amendment, this bureau can increase their service with full efficiency and thrust from the people around them.
