ENGLISH LANGUAGE IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR LEARNING 1. SPEAK ENGLISH Our communication should be strictly in English. You will all make an effort to sharpen your speaking skills. I would expect you to also communicate in English with me even outside the class. We should all be courteous and tolerant towards each other during communication. 2. HOMEWORK Homework must be handed in on time. Failure to do so will cause disruption in the teacher’s schedule/ work plan / time. Work handed in later than the time specified will not be marked 3. CORRECTION/DRAFTS Correction should be considered as a serious matter in learning. Students must do correction of mistakes and return it to the teacher after corrections are made. This applies to any writing assignment. 4. STUDENT ABSENCE Students who are absent either because they are sick or going out on a school trip or any school activity should personally inform teachers about their absence. Assignments, notes, corrections must be done even though the student has been absent. Student absence shall not be an excuse for not doing assignments. 5. CLASS ENGLISH CORNER The English Corner or Class display board should be properly labelled and constantly updated with students’ work , notices or learning notes . The class monitor shall set up a committee for the class English Corner. 6. NOTES Students should be responsible for keeping notes of their learning. 7. STUDENT FOLIO Folios are evidence of work and are important for revision. Students must keep their folios up to date . Folio contents: (i) Student name , class & subject on the folio cover (ii) Student Profile ( information about student) (iii) Learning contract (iv) Assignments/ homework/ corrections/ notes/ project/ reflection/ tests/ examination questions, reflection (v) Any other relevant materials (vi) Section dividers to organise the folio 8. The vocabulary or language you acquire from reading will enable you to improve your writing skills. It is also important that you keep your Nilam Record up-to-date. 9. JOURNAL Students are required to write journals. Students can write one page on anything ( thoughts/ feelings, reflection, experience, etc). If you can’ t decide on what to write, you can seek advice/suggestions from the English language teacher . Journals are to be handed in every Monday starting Monday 9 January 2012.
