Reflection of light
A ray of light when strikes to any surface in one optical medium .It comes back in the same medium with a change in angle. It is called reflection of light.
A smooth and polished surface reflects light at a definite angle. This
A
rough or irregular surface scatters the light falling on it. This type of
Incident light and reflected light
•The light falling on the mirror is called incident light and light coming back in the same medium is called reflected light.
A
Normal line
perpendicular ON drawn on the mirror is called the normal line.
Angle of incidence •The angle I between the incident ray and the normal line is called angle of incidence.
The
angle r between the reflected ray and the normal line is called angle of reflection.
Laws of reflection 1.The angle of incidence is
equal to angle of reflection i.e. i=r. 2.The incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal lie in the same
