TREATMENT: "Triangles and Rectangles" is the absurd story of a young couple and the line that divides them. Greg and Julia live together in a modest apartment. One day Greg is reading the newspaper at the dining room table while Julia is fixing him a meal. She makes him a sandwich and slices diagonally into two triangular pieces. Greg expresses that he prefers his sandwiches to be cut down the middle into rectangular pieces. This sets off Julia's temper and she proceeds to draw a line of chalk across the room and table, dividing them into two triangles and the each of them on opposite sides. Julia is pleased with her stunt until she realizes that her magazine is on Greg's side of the room. Greg taunts her by pushing further from the line. Julia retaliates by placing a case of cold beer on her side of the table and taking a drink. Greg messes up the pillows on the couch, irritating Julia. She lights a match and dangles it over the line, the fire extinguisher resting on her side, while Greg pulls a golf club out of a bag. There is a moment of cease-fire as Julia blows out the match and Greg lowers the club. Then Julia reaches her foot across the line, as she steps onto Greg's side her body hits the floor with a thud. Greg is poised over her, golf club in hand, a look of surprise and worry on his face. He quickly puts the body into trash bags and pulls out a measuring tape. Greg finds that length of the body will not match the length of the car trunk as he stands in front of it. Greg's solution is to chop the body in half with an axe. As he does so his sandwich is cut into rectangles and he sits at the table with his newspaper in hand once again.
