PP 540 -Well would it be for us to have a feast of tabernacles, a joyous commemoration of the blessings of God to us as a people. As the children of Israel celebrated the deliverance that God wrought for their fathers, and his miraculous preservation of them during their journeyings from Egypt to the promised land, so should the people of God at the present time gratefully call to mind the various ways he has devised to bring them out from the world, out from the darkness of error, into the precious light of truth. We should often bring to remembrance the dependence upon God of those who first led out in this work. We should gratefully regard the old way-marks, and refresh our souls with memories of the lovingkindness of our gracious Benefactor. {RH, November 17, 1885 par. 14} Joh Joh Joh Joh Joh

2:13 And the Jews‘ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, 5:1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 6:4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. 7:2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand. 11:55 And the Jews‘ passover was nigh at hand:

Compare Ex 21:1-22:20 to 22:21-23:9; 23:14-19. Which are judgments? Which are statutes? Which are ceremonies? What about 23:10-13? Christ was standing at the point of transition between two economies and their two great festivals. He, the spotless Lamb of God, was about to present Himself as a sin offering, that He would thus bring to an end the system of types and ceremonies that for four thousand years had pointed to His death. As He ate the Passover with His disciples, He instituted in its place the service that was to be the memorial of His great sacrifice. The national festival of the Jews was to pass away forever. The service which Christ established was to be observed by His followers in all lands and through all ages. {DA 652.2} The Passover was ordained as a commemoration of the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage. God had directed that, year by year, as the children should ask the meaning of this ordinance, the history should be repeated. Thus the wonderful deliverance was to be kept fresh in the minds of all. The ordinance of the Lord's Supper was given to commemorate the great deliverance wrought out as the result of the death of Christ. Till He shall come the second time in power and glory, this ordinance is to be celebrated. It is the means by which His great work for us is to be kept fresh in our minds. {DA 652.3}
