“Mejor Amigo Project”

COURSE: DIACRONÍA DE LA LENGUA INGLESA

PROFESSOR: DAVID VILLALOBOS BETANCOURT

STUDENT: ILEANA AGÜERO RÍOS

II SEMESTER, 2009

“Mejor Amigo Project” We developed the project “Mejor Amigo” in “Escuela Enseñanza Especial” in Liberia during the months from September to November. During this period we went every Tuesday or some Wednesday depending on the teacher’s schedule. It was something pretty different, the experience was unbelievable. We had to know how to teach to children with some disabilities and have a lot of patience. This project has its con’s and pro’s. When I say con’s it is because there were days that we went to teach classes but it was a free day for the students, and we were not told about it. Another con is that not all the students went to classes every day. So, we had to teach just for a few of them. There were supposed to be 12 students, but the most students we had in the class were from 6 at maximum. Furthermore, the first day we went to classes, teacher gave us females the advice of take care of the boys because they liked to touch our butt or breast at any moment. And it happened to me; one naughty boy touched my butt and started laughing. However, I did not like the way the teacher treated the naughty students. She was so bad with them and yelled at them so madly. I think I was traumatized and promised myself if in a future I had child with some disabilities I will hire special tutors for my kid. Also, talking about pro’s we could learn how to deal and treat children with some disabilities. It gave us some experience of how treating children with problems in their learning process. Moreover, it was really fulfilling for us because some of the students already knew some words that we wanted to teach them. Like the numbers, some of them knew it and told us they knew it because they watched on television.

So, the taboo we had about children with disabilities did not have the required intelligence to learn another language died there. Because doing this project showed us all the things these children can do and perform. Finally, we as future teachers must know all the advantages and disadvantages of teaching to special children. Because we do not know if in a future we will have students who needs special education, and we will have at least a few experience about the topic and we will know what we are going to face.
