The bedroom of a small corporation flat in Dublin. The room is darkened. We can make out a body sleeping in the bed. This is GEORGIE. Georgie is 42 and heavy set and neglected looking. He’s wearing a Celtic top. There is a small wide screen tv in the corner of the room. Eventually we hear a knock on the bedroom door. It is his mother. GEORGIE’S MA (O.S.) Georgie... Georgie She taps on the door again. GEORGIE’S MA (O.S.) (cont’d) Are you up Georgie? Georgie, are you getting up? Beat. The door opens. GEORGIE’S MA enters. She speaks softly to him. GEORGIE’S MA (cont’d) Georgie. Georgie. What?
GEORGIE
GEORGIE’S MA Are you getting up? I am up.
GEORGIE
GEORGIE’S MA You’re in bed. I’m awake.
GEORGIE
GEORGIE’S MA You’re not. GEORGIE How can I be talking and not fucken awake. Come on.
GEORGIE’S MA
She takes down a corner of the sheet that is acting as a curtain. Light streams in. GEORGIE’S MA (cont’d) Come on Georgie. GEORGIE Will you for fuck’s sake! GEORGIE’S MA I’m only doing what you asked me.

GEORGIE’S MA And the smell in here. She leaves. Eventually Georgie sits up. He looks wrecked. He sits on the edge of the bed for a while. He rubs his eyes. He rises and looks at his watch. He exits. CUT TO: 2

Georgie is walking towards the bathroom wearing only his underwear. His mother stands at the door to kitchen. GEORGIE’S MA (O.S.) Will you have breakfast? Beat. Georgie goes into the bathroom. What?

Georgie sits down to have a piss. He closes his eyes and sways a little. He moves to sink. He turns on the taps. He stares at himself in the mirror. He looks a mess. He splashes water on his face and neck. He stands. He holds out his hand. It shakes a little. He exits the bathroom. CUT TO: 4

GEORGIE’S MA But she’s not letting on. The place is destroyed. Yeah.
GEORGIE

Georgie is looking at a massive stack of beers. He is looking for a certain brand. He can’t find it. There is a Chinese man in shop uniform working nearby. GEORGIE What’s your special offer today? CHINESE MAN Lyndon Village. GEORGIE That’s cider. Yes.
CHINESE MAN
GEORGIE Have you the Tuesborg left. All gone.
CHINESE MAN
GEORGIE All fucken gone. How much for the lagers? CHINESE MAN One ten for can. GEORGIE For all of them. Those.
CHINESE MAN
The Chinese man points to the stack of cheaper lagers that Georgie hadn’t noticed. GEORGIE Take the Bavaria so. Georgie takes 7 cans of Bavaria lager from the stand. He moves to the counter with his purchase. There is a woman ahead of him getting her Lotto receipts checked. This is LYNDSEY. LYNDSEY Will you check me lotto tickets there, Ling. Lyndsey.

LYNDSEY See Georgie. The Chinese man hands her the winnings and takes Georgie’s cans. GEORGIE Good alright. CHINESE MAN (To Georgie) Seven seventy please. Long pause as Georgie hovers a little hoping maybe Lyndsey might stand him his cans. Eventually he hands over the money. LYNDSEY I’ll tell you Georgie it pays to do the Lotto. Give us 6 quick picks and forty blues thanks. The Chinese man gives Georgie his change.

Georgie enters the park. He immediately takes the can from his inside pocket, opens it and takes a very long drink from it. He walks deeper into the park. He approaches a small group of people sat on a bench. They are TWO MEN and A WOMAN. They have the hard bitten faces of street drinkers. They are drunk. They greet Georgie and engage him in small talk. He eventually gets past them. CUT TO: 11
EXT. CITY CENTRE PARK - 1145

Georgie sits on a bench in the park. He drinks a can. He finishes it and opens another. He watches PEOPLE. He sees a MAN holding a CHILD’s hand. CUT TO: 12
EXT. STREET. SHOP/ POST OFFICE - 1200

Georgie is walking towards the small shop/post office to collect his dole. A man pulls up on a bike. He slaps Georgie hard on the back of the head. Then he gets off bike and places it at the entrance to post office. He doesn’t lock it. This is JEROME. He is a rough man in his mid thirties. JEROME Alright kid? GEORGIE Ah Jesus Jerome. Alright. JEROME Sound now. Sound. There is an OLD MAN sitting outside the shop. JEROME (cont’d) (to the Old Man) Will you keep an eye on me bike while I get me scratcher there Nelson?

JEROME That was ages ago. GEORGIE What happened? JEROME Got sick of looking at garden furniture. GEORGIE Right. When did that finish? Jerome gives Georgie a look. Georgie realises he is asking too many questions. Sorry.

JEROME A few months ago Georgie. GEORGIE Right. And what are you up to now? JEROME Getting into flooring. Right.

Georgie approaches the social welfare office. There is a woman in pyjamas smoking a cigarette at the door to the welfare office. She is heavy set, in her thirties and is very tanned. This is SAMANTHA. Georgie stops and lights up a cigarette. GEORGIE Busy inside Samantha? SAMANTHA Load of poxy Bosnians.

Georgie is sitting alone in the interview room. The room is bright. There is a table and some chairs. There are posters on the wall advertising ‘back to work’ schemes. One of he posters is in Polish. A YOUNG MAN enters. He is the supervisor. The supervisor is a young man in his late twenties. He places Georgie’s file on the table in front of him. He sits. SUPERVISOR Mr. Pierce? Yes.
GEORGIE
SUPERVISOR George Pierce. GEORGIE There a problem? SUPERVISOR Have you signed on with FAS yet George? GEORGIE I’m going to. SUPERVISOR But you haven’t yet? GEORGIE Not yet. This is what this is about? SUPERVISOR Why haven’t you? GEORGIE I have me trade. (CONTINUED)

Georgie is sitting at a poker machine. There are others around him. No one speaks. There is the noise of the games dealing. Georgie is transfixed by the game. He is in a slack jawed wonder. In the background, in another section of the place, we see CONOR and GAVIN (from GAVIN’S STORY) being ejected. Georgie pays no attention. NEVILLE Hey. Quit kicking the machines lads. Fuck off.
GAVIN
NEVILLE Out. The pair of yous. Why? Go on.
CONOR NEVILLE

Georgie is walking down towards Mr. Forbes’ workshop. There is a sign above the door saying ‘Forbes Upholstery - Suites and settees reconstituted’. There is a van parked beside the entrance to the workshop. A young man gets out of the van and opens the back door. Georgie approaches. We see that the young man has some bruising around the eye. His name is DEAN. Georgie.
DEAN
GEORGIE What has you here Dean? DEAN What has you here Georgie? GEORGIE Calling in to say hello to Mr. Forbes. DEAN The man of leisure now Georgie? GEORGIE Bits yeah. You dropping off a couch? DEAN Looks like it doesn’t it. Yeah.

Dean is wrestling with the couch. DEAN Take the end of that. Right.

Georgie jnr enters. Georgie stays at the door. VICTOR (cont’d) Alright Georgie? Yeah.
GEORGIE
VICTOR Good. You coming in? Georgie stares at Victor for a moment. Then he suddenly punches Victor hard in the face. Victor falls backwards up the hallway. Georgie follows after. He descends on Victor and starts punching him again. They fight up the hallway. Victor starts getting a few hits on Georgie. Georgie jnr is standing watching it. TINA arrives out. TINA Jesus God. Stop it. Georgie punches Victor hard. There is blood. It is a huge ugly fight. Georgie jnr is crying and Tina is trying to pull the men apart. TINA (cont’d) Georgie stop it. Stop it. Georgie. Georgie gets up. Victor stays down. Tina bends down to Victor. Georgie has blood on his nose and mouth. He turns and starts to walk toward the door. We follow Georgie. He walks. He goes out the door, down the steps. He is pumped with adrenaline. He tries to wipe some blood from his mouth. He passes a young girl with a pram. This is STACEY (From STACEY’S STORY).
