Student views chose Brockenhurst “Ibecause it had a really

The best thing about “Brockenhurst is all the new friends I have made. As part of enrichment I did women’s football. This was really good as I met loads of new people and played in lots of matches. Coming to College has really improved my confidence. The main differences between school and College are that you get to wear your own clothes and you are accepted for who you are. I travel to College by car. I can always find a parking space, and because it’s on campus I feel safe leaving my car. Lisa Frampton – Glenmoor

The atmosphere at “College is really good as everyone is happy to be here. The gym is really great as it’s free and you can use it when you want. The LRC is good as there are always computers and it’s very quiet so you can get work done. If I need help I can easily ask as the lecturers are very approachable. They also give feedback on assignments. I have been to many of the social SU events. I went to Jumpin’ Jaks, the Halloween party and ‘Dress to Impress.’ The SU events are a really fun way of socialising.

Callum Feltham – Mountbatten

My highlight of “College has been meeting new friends and learning what student life is like in England. I have been given advice from the Skills Development department and I think they are very helpful because they talk with me personally. They teach us how to plan our study time and they give us an idea of how to improve our grades. I have been on the Cambridge University trip because I am a member of the gifted and talented group which was beneficial.

Michel Tang – International Student

good reputation and I knew lots of people that came here and really loved it. When I was applying for university my tutor helped me by having one-to-ones and he helped me write my personal statement and with going through my application form. Everyone is happy to be at College so there is a really good learning atmosphere.

Matthew Butler – Noadswood

use different “Teachers methods of teaching so lessons are interesting. We get time to work on assignments then teachers give us feedback so we can improve. Teachers are supportive, passionate and enthusiastic about what they are teaching and they want you to be the best you can. I get the train to College with people from my course and we discuss assignments and catch up before College starts.

Claire Little – Avonbourne

best thing about the “The College are the people and the friendly atmosphere. I went to the Fresher’s party in Elements in Bournemouth which was a really good place to meet new people. I’ve been on two trips, one with Business Studies where we went to Disneyland Paris, and also to the Anvil in Southampton where we watched the London Symphony Orchestra play. For enrichment I joined the Saxophone Quartet and Samba Band which helped me with my Music course. Chris Cook – Winton

best thing about “The Brock is the working environment as it’s a nice place to learn. I did film studies and life drawing as part of enrichment which I enjoyed. I received higher education advice from the connexions team who opened my eyes to different possibilities and helped me to decide to do an art foundation course before university. Leonie Macaulay – Salisbury High

Before coming to “Brock I had an interview which helped me choose my course and they explained every option open to me. The teachers are amazing as they are always willing to help you. The facilities are really good at College, for example the LRC has so many books and computers you can use which are good for revising. I went to the Higher Education Fair which was really useful. The College arranged a trip to Oxford University which showed the opportunities available to me when I leave.

Maisy Best – Hounsdown

I chose Brock College “because there was something unique about it as it was in the New Forest. There is so much space to sit and relax. I am studying Law, Business, English Language and Politics. I really enjoy Law because the lesson is always varied which makes it extremely interesting. My highlight of College so far has been being elected as the Students’ Union president.

Joanne Jayerjah – Sandown (Isle of Wight)

The best thing about “Brock is the new friends I’ve made and the fact I can study subjects that I love. The College identified that I was dyslexic, and informed my tutors who provided me with extra help. Skills Development was really good as they worked with me on a one-to-one basis to help me set out assignments and develop research skills. I travel to College by bus. I listen to music, relax and enjoy the scenic journey.

Josh Edwards– Ringwood

The atmosphere at “College is fantastic. Everyone gets on with each other and is here to do well. I was part of the College Newspaper as part of enrichment. This was really interesting as I was working with like minded students and it went well with the courses I was studying. The HBC is a great place to socialise with friends and offers a wide range of food which is reasonably priced. The sports facilities are up-to-date and are available for use during free periods. Josh Keep – Queen Elizabeth

www.brock.ac.uk best things about “The Brockenhurst College is the excellent facilities it has to offer. There is always a PC to use in the LRC and I enjoy using the gym. The lecturers are friendly and treat you with respect. During my course we went on one trip to Bournemouth University where we were taken on a tour of the campus which gave a great insight into uni life. I received advice and guidance with my UCAS application which was very beneficial as the process can seem a bit daunting. We talked through the Higher Education options in groups and also on a one-to-one basis. I travel to College by train which is quick and I enjoy the social side of it; chatting with mates and meeting people who get on at your station.

Lloyd Cobb – St Edwards

best thing about my “The course is the variety of what we study. The location of the College is brilliant as it’s in the middle of the New Forest. The facilities at Brock are great especially the LRC because being a drama student means that I need to read a lot of plays. I have done Musical Theatre enrichment which involved a lot of singing which I enjoyed. My highlight of College so far has been the College production of ‘Les Miserables’ because it gave me experience of working in a professional theatre company. Gregory Randall – Portchester

to Brock allowed “Coming me to focus on subjects I really enjoy. The campus is set in a really lovely area and I enjoy walking to the village in my free periods and also relaxing in the HBC. The sports facilities are fantastic. The LRC is great as there is everything you need for your course in there. I used the careers section in the library to research universities as there are lots of HE prospectuses. I travel to College by car and I car share with a friend which splits the cost of petrol. Excellent facilities on a single site campus Our campus covers 27 acres on a beautiful site in the New Forest, now a National Park. Recent additions include a two storey Social Centre and a major extension to the Learning Resources Centre. The Beacon Technology Centre completed in July 2006 includes state-of-the-art facilities for IT, Technology, Media and Photography. Our students have a superb learning environment.

Ease of access Frequent mainline trains and an extensive College bus network enable students to come to Brockenhurst from a wide area. Both rail and bus transport are subsidised by the College.

www.brock.ac.uk Ideal stepping stone between school and university or employment You are given more responsibility and independence than in school to develop your study and work skills and prepare you for university or a career. Each subject is allocated Personalised Learning Time alongside their classes. This can take the form of, for example, extended lessons, e-learning, workshops or guest speakers. Our students describe the atmosphere as more “adult” than that at school. Staff provide a supportive, caring environment to ease the change from school to college.

Easy to settle in Students tell us they find Brockenhurst a very welcoming, friendly and personal place. The average group size is about sixteen so there is plenty of individual attention and support from Lecturers and Personal Tutors. New Student Day, Induction Day and subject induction programmes will help you to get to know the College, gain an overview of your course and make new friends.

Personal tutorial support Your progress will be monitored very carefully. Personal Tutors and Tutorial Managers provide support and regular Parents’ Evenings are linked to written reviews of progress which include individual target grades. An electronic registration system enables us to monitor your attendance quickly and effectively and your Individual Learning Plans are regularly updated. We have recently achieved the Matrix standard – external recognition of the high quality information, advice and guidance provided for our students.

Expert higher education and careers guidance Support is available from Careers Advisors and other specialist staff and resources are plentiful. We host major further/higher education and careers events and have ‘compacts’ (special application arrangements for some students) with all local universities. We hold the Investors in Careers standard – external recognition of the quality of careers and higher education guidance at Brockenhurst.

Careers and higher education guidance Careers Advisers based at the College can be consulted by students for individual interviews.
