2009 Sponsorship Proposal
Matt Walton Coast To Coast For Cancer
[email protected]
The Cause From the 5th of April to the 3rd June 2010, Matt Walton will be running from Cape Town to Durban to raise funds for the children of CHOC (The Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa) CHOC is a countrywide voluntary organization. It brings together the parents of children who suffer from all varieties of cancer or life threatening blood disorders. The goal of this dedicated group is to improve the welfare and the quality of care for children with cancer. The organization provides direct practical help to children with cancer, from diagnosis onwards, recognizing the inevitable disruption to family life when a child faces vigorous and often lengthy treatment. CHOC does not receive any funding from government and funds raised are applied to directly benefit the children and their families, and also support those involved in the treatment of these most serious illnesses. http://www.choc.org.za
The Mission The mission is three-fold: Firstly to raise enough money for CHOC to make a visible difference To raise awareness of the plight of children with Cancer in South Africa To show others that nothing is impossible and that anything can be done if you put your mind to it
The Challenge This event will cover over 1800 km and take place over a period of 59 days, covering approximately 50 km a day and resting on weekends. The event will consist of a televised start at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on the 5th of April 2010 and end in Durban on the 2nd of June 2010. A total of 43 towns and cities will be covered and a scroll with a message from the mayor of Cape Town will be presented to the mayor of each town and city visited. This process will involve a police escort starting 5km outside of each city center *Addendum A.
The Runner Matt Walton has always had a passion for running and helping others. He is currently completing his high school career, matriculating in 2009. He formed Coast to Coast for Cancer in January 2009 to raise funds and awareness to better the lives of the children of South Africa suffering from cancer. Matt is an extreme athlete who lives life to the full, always refusing to sanction under-achievement or mediocrity. Knowing that we are all capable of so much more, he is tackling this huge challenge, not only to push back his own frontiers but to inspire other to climb their personal mountains as well.

The Coast to Coast for Cancer project is really close to her heart as she herself was diagnosed with cancer in July 2008. Her larger-than-life attitude and willingness to embrace the challenge together with Matt makes her the ideal candidate for the position. She is currently handling the budget, logistics and all marketing and media aspects and will also be running at least three of the 50km legs with Matt.
The Sponsors As seen in the budget attached (*Addendum B) it takes a lot to really make this happen. The project is totally dependent on sponsorship as there are no other funds available. The obvious benefits for sponsors, apart from the fact that donations to charities are tax deductable, are:
