Gilded Age & Progressive Era Digital Story Project Background: In American history, the Gilded Age refers to major growth in population in the United States and extravagant displays of wealth and excess of America's upper-class during the postCivil War and post-Reconstruction era, in the late 19th century (1877-1890). The Progressive Era in the United States was a period of reform which lasted from the 1890s to the 1920s. Responding to the vast changes brought about by industrialization, the Progressives advocated a wide range of economic, political, social, and moral reforms.
