Profile Gauge & Tool Co Ltd are a precision engineering company that specialise in close tolerance high quality products. Specialising in the High Speed End equipment, we have been supplying the rolling mill industry with precision parts for over twenty-five years. Manufacturing parts from customer supplied drawings, designing parts to specific customer requirements or by providing a reverse engineering service, where manufacturing drawings become the property of the purchaser on completion. We are a medium sized Engineering Company that has been in operation for over 40years, offering an excellent range of services, developed specifically to provide High Speed NTM's with precision engineered products that satisfy the most demanding of standards at cost effective prices. We currently supply Roll Shafts, Taper Sleeves & Flingers to all of the UK NT Mills and at selected locations in Europe. We are able to offer in-house, CNC machining, Gear Cutting, Design, Manufacturing & Assembly of Jigs, Tooling and Fixtures. In addition we also have on site, a UKAS laboratory certified to provide a calibration service for measuring equipment and are frequently requested to carry out inspection on parts supplied by the OEM's to determine their accuracy against drawing specification. Profile Gauge are also the principle supplier for Ashlow Guides, to whom we supply direct. In addition the company provides a full reverse engineering facility - samples of component are accurately measured and then drawn in both 2D & 3D prior to manufacture - we also use FEM analysis to identify 'hot spots' which may possibly be the cause of a fundamental weakness in the original design. In addition to supplying new parts we also offer a reconditioning service for the high value consumable parts such as pinion shafts, housings and taper sleeves. Where possible the parts are reconditioned back to the original drawing specification. This provides a very cost effective alternative to 'new' with no loss of quality and which has benifited many of our clients. We are constantly striving to develop ways to save money both in down time and manufacturing process and with feedback from our clients have developed a manufacturing process for the No-Twist Mill taper sleeves that when on trial have out-performed our competitors by twenty/thirty percent. Over the years we have gained a reputation for the supply of parts superior to those supplied by the original manufacturer. Listening to the customer and reacting to his comments have achieved this. Offering innovative solutions to their problems, improving the parts and increasing the life of the parts. This has a direct effect of reducing costs to the mill. Although we have specialised on the high speed end of rod and bar mill equipment our range of services are not confined to this area alone. We offer design and manufacture of jigs, tooling, fixtures and have an optical grinding facility for mill guide rollers. In addition we have, in-house, our own UKAS accredited laboratory to ensure accurate calibration and measurement of parts prior to dispatch. New Parts Program New parts supplied on a regular basis include pinion shafts, taper sleeves, flingers, cover plates, guides, bearing housing, eccentrics etc. Reconditioning Service

We offer a reconditioning service for the high value consumable parts such as pinion shafts, housings and taper sleeves. Where possible the parts are reconditioned back to the original drawing specification. This is a very cost effective solution which many of our customers have taken advantage of. We typically manufacture: 1. Pinion Shafts in 6”, 8” and 9”. These can be supplied with the tapers hard chromed or un-chromed as per your preference. 2. Taper Sleeves in 6”, 8” and 9”. The Taper Sleeves we supply are manufactured from stainless steel bar, with the outside diameter for the tungsten carbide disc chrome plated to give the sleeve a hard longer lasting surface. The chromed sleeve has proved to be very successful, with many of our customers achieving cost savings using these rather than the standard sleeve. We also supply the Taper Sleeves nitrided. These are also made from stainless steel bar and are supplied to mills that prefer not to have chrome plate on their sleeves. We do not use castings for the sleeves because castings do not give a consistent surface for the chrome plate and using bar allows us to harden and temper the sleeves with more accuracy through the whole sleeve. We have developed a new specification Taper Sleeve that is on trial at one of our customers. This sleeve is made from stainless steel and is heat treated to give the outside diameter a hardness greater than chrome plating, whilst leaving the bore soft, to the original drawing specification. This gives the sleeve the extended life and cost savings, the chrome plating normally achieves, without the problem of the chrome being damaged. If you could let us know the type of sleeve you prefer we will be happy to quote you for them. 3. Flingers, with chrome oxide coating, labyrinth rings, cover plates, etc. Profile Gauge can supply these and many other precision-machined parts.
