PHOTOSYNTHESIS It is a phenomenon taking place in leaves of green plants. This process helps in the manufacture of food in green plants. Green plants contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which helps in combining carbon dioxide ( from air ) and water ( from soil ) in the presence of sunlight, thus leading to the manufacture of food material i.e. Glucose . During this process of photosynthesis, chlorophyll breaks down the molecules of water and carbon dioxide prepare carbohydrates and oxygen gas is released into the environment. Photosynthesis is important in the following ways: It helps in the growth of green plants.  Release of oxygen into the atmosphere to sustain life on the earth.

Process of photosynthesis The photosynthetic phenomenon is one of the most important metabolic process for providing food supply to

the biological world and purifying the atmospheric air only green plants can perform this process by taking water from soil ,co2 from atmosphere in the presence of sunlight without chlorophyll and other accessory pigments, photosynthesis is hot possible. Chemical equation of photosynthesis night Be written as:6co2+ 6h2o light c6h12o6 +6co2 Chlorophyll Chloroplast is the organelle where this process occurs. Photosynthesis is a two step process occurs.

The primary reaction depends on light and hence called light reaction and this step is followed by second step in which light is not required but product of light reaction is used up for fixation of co2 in carbohydrates . Whole process occurs in chloroplast. As photosynthesis process completes in two steps:The first step i.e. Light reaction will generates assimilatory power in the form of ATP and NADPH oxidation of water also takes place in this step. 2nd dark reaction co2 is fixed and converted into hexode through cal v in cycle.
