From: Mr. Thomas Hewes-Eddinger Chief of Security Date: February 11, 2009 Subject:

Principal Supervision of Security Officers Please review the attached reports:

In each case the Principal made an incorrect judgment call creating conflict and confusion for the security department, who was left with the task of straightening out the problem. These are only a few of the daily incidents. During the week of January 26, 2009, three (3) schools had Officers acting in the capacity of Substitute Teachers, leaving the building unattended. The Union called and wanted to know if they were being paid as such. At Camden High School, Officers are told by Administrators not to confront students concerning minor issues i.e. (hats, hall passes, etc.) because they do not want to have to “write up” the students. The Policy that Security Officers directly report to Principals is causing chaos. They manipulate the staff any way they see fit and then leave me to clean up the mess. Let me know what you think.
