…1.Primary Prevention A) Population strategy:prevention of NIDDM based on elimination of risk factors is possible. Prevention measures comprise maintenance of body weight B)High Risk Strategy:since NIDDM is linked to sedentary life style ; obesity controls possible to control risk of diabetes and its complications. ---Alcohol should be avoided. ---effective directed at target population programme.

2. Secondary prevention To maintain blood sugar levels within normal

limit To maintain ideal body weight. Treatment based on:a)diet alone. b)diet and oral anti diabetic drug. c)diet and insulin

Proper management to prevent complications. Proper dietary modifications.

Self Care:-

Diabetics should take intense care.

3. Tertiary Prevention Diabetes is major cause of disability through its

complication.. e.g blindness, kidney failure, gangrene,artherosclerosis.

Main objective is to organize specialized clinics

and units capable of providing diagnostic and management skills of a high order
