Pranav with Rajamma
Pranav and Rajamma Rajamma entered the 214 family,
weeks after Pranav was born Pranav till today, shares a special bond with “Raju” As a child, his daily entry to the 214 house was always announced by “Rajuuu – Bournie” (Bournvita !) Today, this has been replaced by: “Raaj – oru large (cup of tea)!!”
Little Pranav - With Viswesh
Pranav with Kitcha Thathu and Thyagu thatha
His obsession If there was one thing that Pranav could not live
without, it was his white and silky “Shawl” As the story goes “And everywhere that Pranav went, his shawl was sure to go” Gifted to him as a baby, he could not go to sleep without clutching it and rubbing it over his mouth. If Pranav felt sleepy (when in 214), whatever be the time of day, his parents / grandparents would have to rush to his house … …to fetch his “security blanket”, for a comfortable sleep !
Pranav with Thathu (Ram periappa and Bhaskar mama in the background)
Pranav and thathu Pranav has been Thathu’s pet grandson and has always managed
to get away with many things that others didn’t, till today ! Every time he returned home(214) late-night on weekends, thathu would be furiously waiting to scream at him. Instead, when thathu opened the door, Pranav’s quick gesture of a bear hug and an “I love you thathu” … ..Left thathu welcoming him with a smile
Pranav’s passion – Table Tennis Table Tennis was Pranav’s favourite sport Daily practice sessions with Vasanth
ensured he made it to the state team At 16-17 years he represented Karnataka at the Nationals His love for the game rubbed off onto Vibhu who also pursued the same
Pranav with Mathuma
Pranav with Vibhu, Aditi and Kavya – in Shimla (Pranav’s 14th year)
In the eyes of his cousins Pranav being the eldest kid in the family was
always the ‘big bully’ to the younger cousins He would make them run all his errands . E.g. He would sit upstairs in 214 and order them to run down and get him his “large” cup of tea ! After drinking his tea, he’d call them up again, and ask them to run down … … to keep his empty cup in the sink !
I might bully you all – but I still love you guys
Pranav with Vibhu, Aditi and Kavya – in Agra (his 14th year)
Studious and serious !!
A born Teacher His favourite pastime even as a kid was to quiz
his kid cousins (age groups 5 to 17) on Math and Science !
Had insisted on imparting ‘wisdom’ to Naren
(when in class III) by trying to teach him the concept of “i” (the square root of ‘-1’) !!
Has a great natural flair and love for teaching Played an important role in Vibhu’s entry to IIT
with his constant prodding and egging
Old habits die hard When Pranav joined IIT, the family’s
greatest concern was how to wean him away from his “Shawl” The shawl had been used and abused and had come to tatters ! But Pranav had no intentions of letting it go. It had become his life companion, throughout his childhood, teenhood and almost his adulthood ! Finally on joining IIT, out of some amount of embarassment, Pranav was forced to forsake the shawl - much to the delight and relief of his family
New look Pranav - At Masinagudi – with Mathuma and Aditi !
IIT Days His IIT nick name – “CYBER” Most of his weekends were spent
shuttling between Chennai and Bangalore Ace swimmer in IIT TT captain, winning Golds for IIT A member of the IIT Band
MUSIC • IIT also fuelled another passion in • • • •
Pranav Born into a music-lover’s family, music runs in his blood His father tried to initiate him into music by introducing him to the mridangam as a child But alas - he had no intentions of continuing it and had abandoned it very early ! Soon he set out to attempt something different !
His passion - keyboard His musical genes prevailed - a new found
passion blossomed during his IIT days …. the keyboard became his life Hours of practice of Western Classicl music ensured he became a self-taught maestro ! Now a genius and a truly brilliant player of the piano ! He even teaches the keyboard to other students His favourite band – Pink Floyd !
Voices of his cousins “Being the eldest grandchild, Pranav
claims to have done more than his share of babysitting duties!!” “Obviously when put across to the
cousins it’s completely shot down because our childhood memories with him, is us being scared of the big bully! ”
Voices of his cousins Yet, till today he takes the time to talk to
each one of us to find out what’s happening in our lives and of course gives us his ‘gyaan’ as well !”
“And not to forget the smooth operator
that he is – how he smoothly gets info out of all of us without us realizing that we are giving it to him.”
Voices of his cousins “He’s the ‘Big brother’ who may not
always be great at keeping in touch, but one you know you can rely on for advice when you need it !“
A friend, philosopher 7 Guide !!
The next favourite in Pranav’s life ! After Table Tennis and the
keyboard, he’s now moving on to his new found love !! na a h c Ra
