What is Open – Source? The term “Open Source” literally means a consortium of like minded parties (individuals or corporations) who try to come up with products/services that conforms to standards to one specific vertical sector of Software Industry Open Source doesn’t just mean that access to the code. The system must adhere to following standards • Free Redistrubution • Source Code • Derived Works • Integrity of Author’s Source Code • License must not be specific to a product.

Inception of Open Source “Open Source” was originally started as a concept to provide an alternative for Microsoft’s closed Source Windows Operating System and related software. “Open Source” is usually attractive to Java developers because most of the Open Source BI projects are built around Java platforms which in turn provides the developers the freedom to modify or customize the code as per the organizations requirement and needs.
