Valerie
Truong

and
Shai
Allen
(right)
earned
Offensive
and
Defensive
POTW
for
the
GFL™.
In
today’s
football
world,
it
is
not
out
of
the
ordinary
for
first
year
players
to
join
a
league
and
instantly
have
a
positive
impact
on
their
team.
Adrian
Peterson
(NFL™
Offensive
Rookie
of
the
Year)
and
Sam
Bradford
(NCAA™
Freshmen
All‐American
&
Freshmen
Touchdown
passes
record
holder)
immediately
come
to
mind.
Well,
after
the
GFL’s™
inaugural
game
for
the
2008
season,
we
can
add
two
names
to
that
list.
Valerie
Truong
and
Shai
Allen.
Truong,
a
first‐year
WR/RB
out
of
the
University
of
Oklahoma,
earned
Offensive
Player
of
the
Week
honors.
In
Sunday’s
matchup
she
lead
her
team
to
a
decisive
35‐7
victory
while
rushing
for
40
yards
on
3
carries
and
hauling
in
3
passes
for
70
yards
with
two
touchdown
catches.
“Truong
is
real
fast!
We
tried
to
get
her
the
ball
and
put
her
in
a
one
on
one
situation
and
let
her
do
the
rest.
She
reminds
me
a
lot
of
another
Oklahoma
WR,
Mark
Clayton,”
said
her
head
coach,
Uvaldo
Luna.
Allen,
a
first‐year
defensive
back
also
out
of
the
University
of
Oklahoma,
earned
Defensive
player
of
the
week.
In
Friday’s
matchup
of
GFL™
powerhouses,
Allen
intercepted
a
Michael
Sarchet
pass
and
returned
it
50
yards
for
the
game‐winning
touchdown.
She
was
all
over
the
field
that
night
and
finished
with
4
pass
deflections
and
the
pick‐6.
“Allen
has
a
nose
for
the
football.
She
always
seems
to
be
in
the
right
place
at
the
right
time.
She
has
a
lot
of
the
same
qualities
that
Roy
Williams
has,”
said
her
head
coach,
Meredith
Oliveti.
Continue
to
expect
great
things
from
these
two
GFL™
superstars.
They
will
be
around
for
a
long
time.
