Postal Regulatory Commission to Conduct Public Hearing On Possible U.S. Postal Service Station and Branch Closures Washington, DC –Interested parties are invited to attend a public hearing of the Postal Regulatory Commission concerning the U.S. Postal Service “Station and Branch Optimizations Initiative” that could affect postal retail offices nationwide, including 26 offices located in the Bronx, New York City and the state of New York. See attached list of New York postal offices currently under review by the Postal Service for possible closure. What:

Background: On July 10, 2009 the Commission issued Order no. 244 establishing Docket N2009-1 to review a U.S. Postal Service proposal that could result in numerous station and branch offices being closed nationwide. This hearing is part of an ongoing review of the Postal Service’s proposal by the Commission and is designed to enhance public participation in the process and to ensure a thorough, transparent public review of the proposal.

- 30 The Postal Regulatory Commission is an independent federal agency comprised of five Presidentially-appointed and Senate-confirmed Commissioners, each serving terms of six years. The Chairman is designated by the President. In addition to Chairman Ruth Goldway, the other Commissioners are Vice Chairman Nanci Langley, Dan Blair, Tony Hammond, and Mark Acton.
