PLATE NO. 1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A mixed-use building is a type of urban development strategy for living spaces that blends residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, or entertainment uses, where those functions are physically and functionally integrated. The mixed-use building aims to provide comfort and hassle-free environment for the recipients for whom they can do their jobs there without experiencing traffics going to their workplace and without spending too much money for transportation fares. It will also contribute for economic growth, which will give opportunity for urban development and can provide job opportunities. Pavia is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Iloilo and the smallest municipality in terms of area, covering only 2 715 hectares but can be considered as a progressive town because of the emerging building construction. The proposed building is located nine (9) kilometers from Iloilo City and it is very accessible because it lies along the national highway. It is 25 meters in length and 16 meters in width with nine floors inclusive of a basement and a roof deck. The basement will be used as a parking lot for the residents. The first to second floor is for commercial, comprise of a supermarket or grocery store, food stalls, café and restaurants. The third to fourth floor is for sports and lifestyle management which includes work-out gyms, massage and spa, conference room and multi- purpose halls which can be used for zumba and yoga sessions and other related lifestyle activities. The fifth to seventh floor is allotted for residential use and the roof deck can also be used as a laundry area for the residents but its main purpose is for the building's water tank and control room.

DESIGN CONSTRAINTS

The design loads that will be used in the project are based on the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). The Ultimate Strength Design Method was the basis for the design of the concrete members in the structural feature of the project. Other codes and standards used in the design of the electrical and plumbing aspect of the project were also considered. The design of the proposed structure will include provisions for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Fire and Safety, sanitation, ventilation and Disaster Risk Reduction Management. The structure will comply the existing provision and standards set and mandated by the laws and codes of practice related in the design and construction of the proposed structure. The integration and use of these constraints will provide convenience, efficiency and facility for the people, occupants and end users of the building. Thus, the safety and comfort of the occupants is given premium and consideration in the design to achieve maximum functional use and purpose of the structure.

REFLECTION / REALIZATION ON LABORATORY REPORT

Ana Napthalie Marie C. Caburobias: The making of the plate taught me that, a team with cooperative members can accomplish the work in time with so much of idea through brainstorming and innovative decision making. This work provides every member an opportunity to learn or garner knowledge at the same time share his or her learnings in this subject area. The things that I can say that I experienced difficulty is on choosing the location of the project because it requires vacant lot and it took us many choices at first, also in deciding the design standards, methods and specifications that is to be used because it requires codes in NSCP, in that it took us plenty of the time to scan the codes.

Christine Joy C. Jaula: The main learning skill in the life is self-reflection. Self reflection is the key and way of critical thinking in good manner. On the working process, we experience a little bit difficulty because we need to decide on the proposed location that has no existing structure and must consider the economic growth of the town. The type of building that we're trying to design must also conform to the guidelines and standards of the national structural codes of the Philippines that's why decision making is vital in every work process. At first we didn't know we're to start but because we've already done our respective project studies so it aids us to decide on the things that we should work for. We divide the work individually but we share ideas with each other and work as a team. We learned more information while working as a group.

Joena May C. Tunguia: In this laboratory work, we are assigned to work as a group in order to make a project description, the design loads, project constraints and design standard and specifications of our chosen project. Each member gave their ideas of how our project will be and what are the necessary tasks we will do in order to make designs. This activity provides an opportunity to each member to gather information, share ideas and learnings in the given tasks. It is in our great advantage that we already finished our project design subject that it was easier for us to make the tasks because of the experience we had while doing our project study. Although we have experienced in doing the tasks, we still have encounter problems while doing the tasks. One of this is choosing the proposed location – it requires a vacant lot and we have a

lot of suggestion that it cause us amount of time to decide. Another one is the working time as a group, because each members has its different subject that it hard for us to meet and discussed the tasks. Fortunately, we have internet and that helps in communicating in each members. Furthermore, the tasks taught us the valuable lesson of team work, respect of each other’s ideas and understanding the principles – purpose of a structure in the society.
