ABOUT THE COMPETITION This national Secondary School Competition is for upper secondary school students who aspire to be Advertising, Public Relations or Marketing Communications professionals. OBJECTIVES •
To develop students’ creative thinking and problem solving skills, as well as enhance their presentation skills through the PITCH competition.
•
To enable students to apply the knowledge they have gained during the conference to a current issue, which their school may be facing.
•
To provide an avenue for Final Year Mass Communication students to share their experiences and skills learnt in their modules with Secondary School students.
COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS Each secondary school may send up to TWO teams, each comprising 3 to 5 members, excluding the teacher-mentor. There will be a maximum of 15 entries for the competition, chosen on a first-come-firstserved basis. The registration deadline for the competition is 12 July 2009. It is compulsory for all students participating in the competition to attend the PITCH ‘09 Conference held on Saturday, 18 July 2009. The briefing for the competition will take place immediately after the conference. Competing teams will be provided with useful tips and templates on how to develop an advertising and PR campaign and a pitch. The campaign will consist of the following items: •
Poster design (for display at bus-stops or on school notice boards)

An e vent or activity to promote mental wellness through peer support within their respective schools
•
A website (homepage only)
Student mentors from the School of Film and Media Studies, will provide support and guidance to the school teams during the preparation phase.
Each competition entry shall consist of: •

A brief on the issues faced by their respective schools in promoting active lifestyle through sports, and a proposed campaign, using advertising and public relations tools, to address these issues
COMPETITION DAY 1 August 2008 (Sat) 10.00 am to 3.00 pm Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Lecture Theatre 68E All teams will present their ideas to a panel of judges comprising industry professionals. Each PITCH team will be given a maximum of 20 minutes for their presentation, followed by a short Question and Answer session. They will be judged on both content and presentation skills. The top 3 teams will receive a trophy and cash prize. The cash prize will be presented to the winning schools upon successful implementation of their proposed event in their respective schools. All partic ipating students will also receive a certific ate as a token of appreciation for their participation Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: (A) Poster • Creativity* • Use of typography • Effectiveness** of poster

Overall effectiveness** of integrated campaign (5%) Overall presentation (5%) *Creativity means an idea that is workable, appropriate for the campaign message and gives maximum mileage. **Effectiveness means achieving the objectives of the campaign, being appropriate for the campaign message, being relevant to the target audience, and maximising resources. Ngee Ann Polytechnic reserves the right to amend the rules and regulations without any prior notice to all participants.
