Engelsk noter Pink floyd Mother He asks his mother some questions, his mother answers. Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb? – the war, nuclear war, sacred! Mother, do you think they'll like this song? – he was a rockstar, insecure he’ll have succes Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls? – hurt me (mentally), pride, ability to act. Mother, should I build a wall? Mother, should I run for President? Mother, should I trust the government? Mother, will they put me in the firing line? Is it just a waste of time? – asking about everything, kind of giving up. - political sphere: He is very dependent on his mother, he is independent and insecure! Questions about his future, he is afraid of the society, a form of paranoid. Hush, my baby. Baby, don't you cry. Momma's gonna make all of your nightmares come true. Momma's gonna put all of her fears into you. Momma's gonna keep you right here under her wing. – overprotective! She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing. – maybe she will let him free in a short period Momma's gonna keep Baby cosy and warm. Oooo Babe, Oooo Babe, Ooo Babe, of course Momma's gonna help build the wall. - ironic, all her pampering has a negative effect on him. She help him build the wall = overprotevtive => this is the effect, Mother, do you think she's good enough for me? Mother, do you think she's dangerous to me? Mother will she tear your little boy apart? Ooh Mother, will she break my heart? - she =woman, nervous, personal sphere. Afraid of being rejected, she might break his heart and add another brick to his wall, she = new enemy. Hush, my baby. Baby, don't you cry. Momma's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you. Momma won't let anyone dirty get through. Momma's gonna wait up until you get in. Momma will always find out where you've been. Momma's gonna keep Baby healthy and clean. Oooo Babe, Oooo Babe, you'll always be Baby to me. - she really means it, she will always protect him. - she will protect his innocence,  healthy and clean. Mother, did it need to be so high? - did the wall need to be so high? All his mother has done is to build the wall. Can’t get out of the situation.

Background: - all his memories have become his wall. - The bricks in the wall are problems you can’t manage => it blocks him. - The memories are suppressing him, memories keep him in agony/pain. - Trauma  Neurosis  Pink can’t communicate ( he get’s isolated because of the things that goes wrong in his life. The main characters background : he remember his father’s death, the war, the bomb, the school. Relationship to his mother = she is very overprotective. Trauma = arises from episodes in your life (often childhood), father’s death + the school (the school master who is suppressed by his wife => let out stream = beating children) + mother.

Don’t leave me now pink is speaking to his girlfriend/wife. Complaining anout her leaving him Ooooh Babe, Don't leave me now. Don't say it's the end of the road. Remember the flowers I sent. I need you, Babe, To put through the shredder – someone to blame, exposes himself, show somebody else’s in front of my friends. Weakness so he can appear strong. - he needs her, så he can’t hurt her This is like a twist of a tale, “need you because you are my scapegoat”, underlines, instead of “I can’t live without you” Oh Babe, Don't leave me now. How could you go? When you know how I need you, To beat to a pulp on a Saturday night. - he is abusive, could be a projection, because he is angry with his mother. He transfers the dependence to this woman. Fear of the opposite sex (illustrated in the film – cartoon turning into a monster, flower  vagina  becomes hostile to him). Oh Babe, Don't leave me now. How can you treat me this way? Running away. I need you babe Why are you running away? Oooooh babe

Nobody home From his point of view, what it feels like I've got a little black book with my poems in. Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in. When I'm a good dog, they sometimes throw me a bone in. I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on. - he sees his situation as a dog, the people who is working to, treats him as a dog. He hasn’t got that much power (others decide for him). A captive. The music industry is keeping him captive. Got those swollen hand blues. – doesn’t care about how he looks (lost interest) Got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from. – he is watching tv all the time, doesn’t I've got electric light. care about anything (materialistic things) And I've got second sight. – creativity, a former style of poet : the romanticism And amazing powers of observation. And that is how I know When I try to get through On the telephone to you There'll be nobody home. - seems like he has power over the materialistic things, but he doesn’t have anything, his girlfriend isn’t picking up the phone, and that is the only thing he cares for. I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm. – to look like a rockstar, need that. And the inevitable pinhole burns All down the front of my favorite satin shirt. I've got nicotine stains on my fingers. –smoke a lot I've got a silver spoon on a chain. – to heat up the heroin I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains. I've got wild staring eyes. And I've got a strong urge to fly. – put him outside the society (like the romantics), can’t communicate But I got nowhere to fly to. - he feels trapped Ooooh, Babe when I pick up the phone’ - he has a dream of becoming one of the romantic poets, but he is caught by the music industry. There's still nobody home. - apparently he can’t reach (socially) those he cares for. He is lonely. He needs love. I've got a pair of Gohills boots – good walking boots and I got fading roots. – he is loosing connection to everything he cares for.

Comfortably Numb Doctor and pink Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home? Come on, now, I hear you're feeling down. Well I can ease your pain Get you on your feet again. Relax. I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts. Can you show me where it hurts? - doctor There is no pain you are receding A distant ship, smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying. When I was a child I had a fever - memory from childhood, swollen hands, need help. My hands felt just like two balloons. – they’ll will raise, can’t keep your arms down like jesus on Now I've got that feeling once again the cross. He is a victim. Nobody understands him. He I can't explain you would not understand is being sacrificed. This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb. – I don’t really care anymore - glassbowl, the sound is going up and down. Like drowning. O.K. Just a little pinprick. (sprøjte) There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick. Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good. That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship, smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying. When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown, The dream is gone. I have become comfortably numb. - memory! When you almost grasp the truth you wake up, maybe a sign he missed, something went wrong and now he can’t turn back. He has lost his innocent dream about being a poet, it’s all gone wrong, can’t communicate. -4-
