As part of a project to overhaul its IT systems, Piaggio Aero Industries—a world leader in aerospace—has adopted a comprehensive portfolio of Symantec solutions. Symantec Multi-tier Protection™ and Symantec Premium AntiSpam™ are being implemented. The deployment and management of the solutions has been overseen directly by Symantec Corporation through its Consulting Division team, as part of an overall migration project lasting 18 months.

Piaggio Aero has an internal team dedicated to hardware, systems and applications management. Two years ago it began a process to renew the Microsoft Windows environment, switching from Windows NT 4.0 to more up-to-date machines with an HP server. The goals were three fold: to optimize efficiency, manage the entire system with one centralized security policy, increase the efficiency of processes, including checking client logs of clients and the traceability of data. Daily client updates—which is carried out automatically using Symantec Multi-tier Protection—has enabled the company’s network to attain high security standards. During the delivery of these solutions, Piaggio Aero relied on direct consultancy from Symantec Consulting Services professionals to assess the security of its network. As part of this, a Penetration Test was carried out by specialist technicians, making it possible to determine whether the network could be violated from the outside. Eliminate Almost All Spam Mails
Leading aerospace company eliminates 95% of spam with Symantec
The Symantec Premium AntiSpam solution has enabled Piaggio Aero to eliminate almost all spam mails (around 95 percent of e-mails). Part of the reason for this is the use of the dual cascade control system on two servers (the first in overflow and the second to analyze the remaining material) and the systems’ ability to update every 15 minutes. Thanks to the implementation of Symantec security solutions, Piaggio Aero has eliminated 95 percent of company spam, saving more than 30 percent of the work hours dedicated to managing the company’s IT systems. From a financial point of view, compared to competitor solutions the saving has been around 10 percent, with an immediate return. In terms of global performance, Symantec solutions allowed Piaggio Aero to optimize the flow of data to all systems, making them more efficient and ensuring optimal reliability. Today Piaggio Aero’s objectives are the implementation of a mail box management system and continuity back up, through the adoption of a centralized policy for sharing data. Next year, the objective is to define the concept of disaster recovery, create development processes, and subsequently implement all the relative Symantec solutions.
