Photosynthesis DEFINITION : Process of using energy in sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose is called photosynthesis.
Elements used for making food :1.
Chlorophyll
2.
Water
3.
Light of sun
Equation of Photosynthesis:Sun light 6CO2+ 12H2O Carbon dioxide chlorophyll
In photosynthesis (i)
Producers are plants
(ii)
Production is glucose
C6H12O6 + Glucose
6H2O + 6O2 Water Oxygen
(a) Photosynthesis pigment – Chlorophyll is a green pigment present in green plants.
(b) It is present in green leaves chloroplast Site of photosynthesis- Chloroplast:-
(1)
Chloroplast is in excess in leaves
(2)
Inside a chloroplast there is matrix made from protein, called Stoma .
© Raw material for photosynthesis 1.
Carbondiixide (CO2)
2.
Water (H2O)
Factors Effecting the Photosynthesis :
Internal Factors
External Factors
Chloroplast
Light
Structure of leaf
CO2
Quantity of Production
H2O Temperature Oxygen
Process of Photosynthesis : Process of Photosynthesis is divided into two stages: • Light Reaction • Dark Reaction
Light Reaction • Light is necessary for it. • Light reacts with pigments in the leaf. • Three changes are happened at the end : –
O2 Released
– ATP Formed –
NADPH2 Formed
Dark Reaction • Light is not necessary for it.
•
It takes place in the stoma of chloroplast
• It reduces the power stored in ATP & NADPH. •
It may be understood by Calvin-Benson Cycle
