METHODIST GIRLS’ SCHOOL 3 REGIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE 2009 – BLUE IS THE NEW GREEN PHOTOJOURNALISM COMPETITION rd
“...there never existed a single dominant way of reading photography; depending on the context, the viewer could (and continues to) read photographs as representations of concrete events, or as illustrations which do not claim to correspond to events which have occurred. Digital technology does not subvert "normal" photography because "normal" photography never existed.” Lev Manovich (Digital Media Theorist) Digital cameras are giving more people the basic tools needed to capture events that affect their lives. The media is integrating and showcasing photographic reporting in new ways and inadvertently, the popular culture is becoming more aware of visual journalism. MGS 3rd Regional Youth Conference (RYC) 2009 wants to celebrate the art of photojournalism, not just the artistic and technical qualities of photography. This competition seeks to recognize our promising photojournalists who are able to interpret the theme, Blue is the new Green, and communicate meaning through their photographs.
