Press release Protection of abducted Kashmiri women demanded Muzaffarabad: Human rights group Press For Peace (PFP) has demanded the release and safety of two Kashmiri women who were kidnapped by some influential locals who abducted them to take revenue of a court marriage in which bride belongs to abductors family. PFP Head Zafar Iqbal has appealed to Prime Minster of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan and Inspector General Police (IGP) to protect the lives of two women whom abductors have warned that both would be killed soon if their demands were not accomplished. The PFP letter said that the organization has received an urgent appeal from Miss Ruhena , a citizen of Muzaffarabad, who was worried that her mother and sister would be killed if government not take action against abductors immediately. Describing the details of the incident, the letter said that Rashida and Rubina, residents of Muzaffarabad were kidnapped when they were in police custody on 29/06/09 by some people who were furious about a marriage of one of the girl who willingly got married last month in a local court. It further said that some men were threatening Rohina and her sister that they will kill abducted women if newly bride is not handed over to their family. PFP has appealed that it is matter of human rights and police should release the women from illegal detention. It is a basic human right of every citizen to choose the partner according to his/her willingness; therefore, the government should protect the safety to the couple as well. The letter appealed to prime minter of Azad Kashmir and Inspector General Police to immediately release the women from illegal detention and ensure the safety and security of lives of endangered family in Muzaffarbad.
