Personal Effectiveness We are all unique. Different environment get different behavior of people, sometime are not. That’s why in this world having uncountable of types of job and working style, because we are all unique. It will make this world became more challenging and beautiful but at the same time, this make the world worse in conflict. Conflict may bring good effect it also makes the worse in sometime. In this global era, work in team may produce a lot of conflicts; it depends on how the people solve the particular conflict when they working. Self-awareness is very important to perform in our daily life, everyone all are not the perfect, but everyone are try to be perfect. The first step to become a person who has self-awareness is tried recognize our weakness before change our behavior. In this situation of a particular large corporation, Vicky have task of reviewing and assessing two staff members who are working together in a team, the one of the team will be Vicky Tan and Jack Tan. In this situation, Vicky need to observe how of their learning style, interaction style, personality and self monitoring while tests. It will show how they apply and link their behavior and characteristics into working place. In a team may create conflict to each other when working, it is depend how do they solve the conflict. Vicky and Jack had assigned to complete a test to examine the level of differences usage in left brain and right brain. According to the hemispheric dominance test, Vicky and Jack both had use the right brain more than left brain. In this case, they were had close to some of their behavior. Even though both of them are use the right brain most but they are also have differences of behavior between them. As an 1| Page
example, Vicky likes to follow the hunches when making decisions, but jack did not even Jack is a dreaming person but he not making decision follow hunches. According to the result of the test, normally right brain user make decisions like to follow with their hunches and feeling but left brain people are not. Left brain people they are more focus in logical and theoretical, in this type of people are more suitable in a job of lawyer and accountant while right brain user are more in creative and less focus on rules and regulation, it may became advantage but also disadvantage, is depend on them how they apply in their daily life. They will face problem if too follow to their hunches to make decisions, may ignore the how is the effect of the particular decisions sometimes. In other reason, they are holistic; they will try to think with the big picture before think the details. In this situations, both them need to help each other ensure they would not make a wrong decision. In this situation, they can try to set their schedule of themselves before them doing something. Vicky and Jack also had done another test of their learning style. The result will show how were the best learning style for each other, if use wrong of the learning style may not came out the ideal result. Using the right of learning style is very important; it can apply in any situations. According to the test of learning style, Vicky gets the result of “tactile/kinesthetic learning style”. Tactile is means tangible while kinesthetic though physical activity when learning, such as “hand on” activity. For example, an outdoor activity can let Vicky learn easily than inside a classroom with slide show presenting. Jack gets the balance of learning style. He can though “visual/verbal learning style”, “visual/non-verbal learning style”, “tactile/kinesthetic learning style” and also the “auditory/verbal learning style. This test had shown the way of Jack learning style is stable and easily try to learning a new thing in any situation. Vicky can just only learn 2| Page
best when hand on activity. In this situation, jack can try to use the same type of learning style to cover Vicky make they are gain from their goal. The other test is how Vicky and Jack’s interaction style when working. Interaction style is show how is the important of relationship between people, strong or weak? A strong relationship will bring more benefit when doing some particular project, exchange idea and so on. According to observe with Vicky and Jack, they are not the same character in work. For Vicky is more responding and informing, Vicky is slower pace and shy, prefer to receive order than give other order, but Vicky will try controlling when work. For an example, Vicky will try to wait for other talking to her and she tries answering the question only. Therefore, Vicky is more suitable the type of doing work while behind the scenes. For Jack is more in initialing to other and also like to direct to other. He was like to reach out and dare to speak with stranger also. Other than this, he will try give order to other team partner in this particular work. In this case, both of them have the opposite characteristic; this will reduce the conflict between them. But in some case, if Jack too tough to give order for other team partner or Vicky react too responding, it make the bad effectiveness when work. Therefore, they need to try selfmonitoring themselves. According to David W. Johnson, self-monitoring is the tendency to adjust our behavior relative to the changing demands of social situation. We cannot lack of selfawareness in our daily life. The first step to change our bad behavior is self-analysis own weakness by doing a test. A test result will show the five personality of self. According to De Janasz’s a title of “the big five locator questionnaire.” Vicky is weak emotional stability, medium extroversion, high openness to experience, medium of 3| Page
agreeableness and low conscientiousness. It is obviously shown the weakness of emotional stability and conscientiousness. Vicky is a person who will easily worrying and excitable, like to last minutes when doing some work, it shown more irresponsible. Other than this, Vicky get medium of extroversion means ambivert, and high openness to experience is a quite open minded. Vicky will try to do something that have not do before and learn new things. For a negotiator of agreeableness, she will try to be discussing to other and not be always absorbed and challenge other people word. Other than this, Jack is a medium of emotional stability, low extrovert, and moderate of openness to experience, challenge to agreeableness and balance of conscientiousness. For him, he can try to control his emotion, and same as Vicky’s has medium of extrovert, he will try to challenge with other people, tough to give order to partner, but a balance of responsible to doing work. There is also having another test to test their self-monitoring level. For Vicky, she is get the low self-monitoring and Jack get the result of medium-high self monitoring. According to this test, obviously show the same result of Vicky done the five locator test; she is quite emotional when doing certain part of things. For Jack result, he can control himself as show as above. Therefore, Vicky needs to try self-control, try to stand at the different view can be improve the EQ controlling. After compare Vicky and Jack’s behavior and characteristics, both of them can be in a team while help each other in work. Even Jack is stronger control emotion than Vicky, but they are different of characteristics, it will produce a well conflict, their behavior is quite good as them control and willing try to be solving problem.

At the end, different people have the different of view and point. In daily, we need to always learn and try the new things, make sure that is good things another way can be improve yourself be more close to perfect in certain part of own ideal. There is nothing impossible to be done if you always try. We need to control self behavior, make sure do not hurt others, especially emotion. Having a bad emotion, it may hurt people though word, the way we talk, the way we behave. The world will be more beautiful if you think so.
